Found a '94-'04 AWB Colt AR15 A2 (6520) on the shelf in the local gun store last Friday...

Walked away from it saying that I didn't need it. Went the whole weekend thinking about it. Told myself that if it was there today, I'd get it, but I was praying that it wasn't.

Did a little research and found out that it's possibly a '98 model based on the barrel roll-mark. Should've taken a picture of the opposite side of the lower, but I can confirm that it has the "Law Enforcement/Government Use Only" roll mark. Previous owner filled it in with white paint as well.

BCG is a rear cut BCG (semi-auto only) and the sear block is not cut out. I didn't get a full picture of the BCG or the lower internals, but I'll google some and post them below with the pictures I took in the store.

$969 + tax... put it on layaway for now.

BCG looks its barely ever been shot. Either that or they did one hell of a cleaning job.

if it was a real law enforcement rifle, how often are they taking these out. it's not like the streets were a warzone in the late '90s to early '00s. at least not in northeast indiana.

range time maybe? the bore looked clean as well.

when i get it off layaway, i'll post more pictures of it.

Could be worth something to someone in a ban state.

That was when fed started giving (your tax dollars to) LEO cool toys like armored vehicles so I wouldn't be shocked if that was a SWAT rifle for the sheriff's office.

Pretty sure this shootout led to legislation for funding.

They sold those well after the ban was lifted.

True.

Here are some other LGC serial #s that are close to mine and the barrel date is pretty close to it.

I bought my 6920 in 2011 (7 years after the AWB expired) and they were still putting "For Government or Law Enforcement Use Only" on the right side of the mag well.

I think I’m missing the point of what makes this a cool purchase. Someone please educate me!

it was once a civilian banned firearm thanks to Joe Biden and Bill Clinton between the years 1994-2004, and it has now made it's way into my hands.

it's a relic/piece of history. like a battle worn 1911 from WWI or WWII that's killed an actual German. it's not quite as cool as that, but cool enough.

LE. Right after I bought mine they switched to SP, then back to LE, and now of course CR.
