Would it be worth bringing a rod and hitting the surf before daylight? Or wading around the bay? Was planning on bring some matrix shad or vudu shrimp.
I'll take any advice

I have a buddy that caught a tarpon off the Fort Morgan Beach in the surf. I always bring a surf rod when heading to a beach during summer

Normally when I went there, i always brought so much shite, I ended up just going buy something cheap from the Walmart and left it, rod wise anyway.
Waded the point by the fort itself and goose egged, but almost got ran over by 3 or 4 jacks chasing after something.
Only luck surf fishing by the beach house was dragging the bottom with shrimp and caught a hard tail. Cut it up and hooked on to something that popped the line

My suggestion if you have kids is a sabiki rig with pea sized shrimp or fish bites and catch whiting all day.
This is great if you have kids.

If you can get up early enough the surf at daybreak with a top water can be incredible.
Once the sun gets up it's over, unless cloudy.
Later in the day you can use a Carolina Rig with live sand fleas for pompano.
Dig the fleas out of the beach sand
