At the top end of your range, you could look for a used p2000. I bought one exactly like this late last year.

LINK

Holds 13 rounds, interchangeable with the larger p30 mags, small enough to carry but can be an all day range gun. They make them with a safety although this one doesn't have one. The safety is the DA trigger which is longer and heavier followed by the short SA.

Same gun used by the border patrol except they use .40.

I've been researching HK pistols for a few months, just bought a NIB P2000 for $815 (357SIG V2). 9mm is the most expensive through the line, but a USPc is doable for that price. I bet he could find a P30s V3 for around that, the V3 seems to go up for sale a good bit. Most everyone wants the LEM (V2) that they'll convert to light LEM (V1). The V3 P2000 40s are the cheapest of the line, but 9s do come up lightly used as well.

You don't need a manual safety.

I'm literally posting a video today I made about different safeties and why they aren't really necessary. But ultimately personal preference and comfort dictate what you do.

Secondly, I have a Ruger SR9c and I ABSOLUTELY love it. It is my EDC and I have convinced 4 different people to go with the SR series after shooting mine. I love the M&P series too, but the bang-for-your-buck is so great with the SR series that few of my friends have wanted to pay the extra $150 for an M&P. Personally, I love both designs and both have their ups and downs. But I love my Ruger to death.

The only real gripe I have about the SR9c are the sights. The rear dots are very thin and the notch in the back is pretty small. It still shoots amazingly, but the sights take a bit longer to get on target.

If you're serious about making a wise purchase, I'll post links to some of my videos. I'm currently posting the one about safeties right now so keep an eye open for it. Don't worry; it's a shorter video. I kept it around 8 minutes.

First Time Buyers (even if you aren't one, it's loaded with info)

Budget Buyers (if your spending is limited)

Ruger SR9c Review (it's old)

I'll probably do an update video with my Ruger soon because I love it so much and I feel I have more experience behind it than I used to, but that's for another day.

ba, I watched one of your videos a few weeks ago, the first handgun one and it is great video. It's one of the reasons I am looking at the ruger Sr9c. I'll watch these and respond in more detail. I really like both the SW MP and the Ruger. Like the SW a little more, especially now that I can get one with the manual safety. Thanks for the info

Kind of presumptuous for you to say what I don't need. I really don't "need" a handgun but I e want one; one with a manual safety. Not sure why its such a big deal that I want one. ?

Very little of that I could have said better - and much of I couldn't have stated as well.

ETA - and for the OP - if you change your mind about the manual safety, consider the Sig P250 - the 2SUM package in 9mm should almost exactly meet your criteria, sans manual safety.

Saving up for the sig would never be considered a bad decision. Just my two cents.

Thank you for the video, appreciatte your efforts and the information.

Have you shot the SW M&P compact 9mm? I read the MRSP is @$565, what should I expect to pay in the current market?

Locally, I can get the Ruger SR9C for $499+tax/transfer. I have not priced the SW locally.

There are a lot of quality handguns available; here are my frontrunners:

S&W MP9compact
Ruger SR9C
Walther PPQ M2 4"
SA XDm9c

That is about $100 more than you could get the SR9c for around here.

I do feel really lucky to live in the gun capital of the US... Kentucky. There is a gun shop on every corner. Keeps the prices low even during a market like we have at this time.

Any of the four you picked should be fine guns. If it were me, I would save up for the Sig though. Me likey my Sigs. Want more!

Research on gunbroker dot com. 'Watch' the no reserve NIB auctions and see where they end up. Most of the time they go at or above the buy it now price, so the market is well defined on there. Real good resource. Even if you don't buy on there, you'll get a great feel for the value of each option, external safety, since you'll see the ending price value.

All the guns being thrown around are great gun. If you focus on the 2 that the op is considering you have two very good options for EDC. IMO glock xd and M&P are all on the same level with the ruger on the outside looking in. To the op: you will get many different opinions and I would suggest you read arguments from more than just this sight. Also, if you decide that you have run into some extra money somewhere down the road, you can have the apex tactical stuff installed in your M&P. then it's not even close between the two guns.

The trigger is a weakness of the M&P. IMHO, the Walther PPQ has the best trigger of them all. The only reason I don't have a PPQ yet is because parts availability compared to the Glock and M&P is laughable.

I can only speak for the Ruger SR9c. I am very pleased with it. I didn't shoot the others but got to handle them and try the trigger. I thought the Ruger had a good or better trigger then the others. And was priced about $100 less than the G19.

I really didn't need a compact cause I don't see myself ever carrying it. But I do carry it when I'm hunting or walking around my property. Got some extra 17 round mags for it. It's mostly just a range gun and is fun to shoot.

I've read that the M&P is going to a trigger similar to what's in the shied. The shield's trigger is very heavy for my taste but it has a positive reset and a more crips breaking point.
