He owned boat maker Genmar Holdings Co., which went through a lengthy bankruptcy restructuring earlier this decade.

Many people believe he should have been put in jail for his business practices with Genmar. Genmar is directly responsible for putting a lot of small boat dealerships out of business back in the 90's.

That said, the entire marine industry went through significant turmoil due to fraudulent floor-planning schemes.

Reading up on his death, it appears he had his own personal demons he was dealing with... failing health of his wife seems to put him into a downward spiral.

Sad ending.

Wow that's crazy.

I don't know if any of y'all have heard the rumors, but supposedly Boyd Duckett bought/is buying FLW and is turning it in to the feeder system for the MLF Bass Pro Tour.

I heard that.

Apparently his wife was wheel chair bound and showing signs of dementia.

I imagine there is a lot more to the story than simply that.

Yes, she was miserable and wanted to die. He decided he couldn’t go on without her. 57 years of marriage will do that to you.

yep

My wife and I have discussed this after watching a family member go through hell with a disabled spouse with dementia, despite having mad respect for the care giver we were very clear with each other we would never put the other through that.

Before we got there I would have a drink and a cigar and roll myself in the pool.

Real life aint The Notebook and letting the medical racket suck you dry in exchange for a horrible existence is not the way I am leaving this game.

Lead poisoning is quicker and don't forget the funeral racket. Told wife to run me through the oven and into the dumpster.
