Anyone had one done? Happy with the cost/quality of the final product? Ideas of cost?

My pops caught an 8lb largemouth that I was thinking about getting something made for him. Have enough pictures and did get measurements so I’m sure I would have enough to get it done.

My Dad had a marlin done by Grey Taxidermy. He ended up telling them to shorten the length because shipping was outrageous. Probably not the biggest issue with the bass.

New Wave and Grey are the two that I see recommended the most.

I was just wondering the same. Caught my first largemouth over 10 lbs yesterday. Got quite a few pics and measurements. I think I need to get a replica made. Too awesome to not get one.

I got one done 15 years ago and it still looks brand new. I would definitely replicate another if I ever catch a big one again. At this rate that won’t happen lol
I’ll find out what the name of that company was

Why not get the fish you actually caught mounted?? Never really understood this replica stuff. Fish don’t live forever. 16% of fish will die after being released even if released immediately with the majority of them dying 2-3 days later. Anybody can buy a replica. And if somebody asks if you caught that fish on the wall your answer is “NO” b/c that is a replica. You caught one like it but that is not my fish.

That’s interesting that they die like that. You got some links on that? Not arguing, just never heard it and wondering why/what kills them.

Supposedly the morbidity rate on salmon is pretty high. I don't think it's as high as the biologists say or what they're told to say.

We have a quota on some seasons and when the checkers, as we call them. These are biologists or interns working for fish and game taking info on your catch, encounters, where you fished etc.

Well, people found out years ago that they count a lost or released salmon against the quota. Not everyone knows but we are all doing our best on informing fishermen at the dock.

My convo with them is very basic now. If i caught fish i say how many but i say i had no other encounters. If i lost a fish i dont tell them.

I'm not trying to help them take away anymore fishing opportunities than they already have.

Bass mortality

Kind of long.

According to the video water temp plays the biggest factor. Higher the water temp the higher the mortality after a catch and release.

I’ve learned a lot in reading about this. It sounds like offshore fishing with hours long fights are the worst as it relates to mortality.

We troll during the summer and we lose a couple of fish every time when we bring them up from the deep water, but I would think that normal bank beating wouldn’t have the same results. Bass fishing is typically 10-15 seconds of fighting the fish and 30 seconds to a minute of measuring and picture taking. Then they are back in the water. Hard to believe that in that situation, they are dying. However, if you are considering those from the deep during the hot months into the average, I can see the 14% number. Not sure that is relevant to the replica conversation though.

Devil's advocate here, but 100% of the one's you don't release will die...

Maybe I'm wrong but you're probably looking at $10-20 an inch depending on background and such.

I’m going to do one soon. It’s going to cost roughly $1400. SMH

Got quoted from New Wave for $625 (at $25/inch) not including shipping with a 12 month turnaround. Saw another place that was at $22/inch for largemouth plus $95 for shipping.
