finnesse bass setup- it’s raining so I’m going to cabelas

I have nothing to do today in this shitty weather so I’m going to head to cabelas to purchase another setup that I don’t needed.
I’m looking for a lightweight spinning setup for bass fishing. I’m thinking the reel will be in the 1500-2000 size.
I’m not sure what rod action to get for this setup.

Do not get Lew's. Get either Daiwa or Shimano. I give Daiwa the edge on spinning reels. Rods are going to be personal. If they have any Fish Eagles left, give those a waggle.

I'm on the tacticalbassin train when it comes to the notion that your finesse setup should be the most sensitive rod you own, and with lighter line a really smooth drag is critical.
The wife will never find out combo: G Loomis GLX 802S JWR 6'8 medium extra fast, with Shimano Stradic 2500
She may roll her eyes but won't bitch too much combo: St. Croix Avid X 7' Medium extra fast, Shimano Nasci 2500
I think you'll really enjoy medium-extrafast for finesse stuff like drop shots and shakey heads, but it's also really subjective, varies from rod to rod, and is really too easy to overthink. Just hold the rod and imagine a really light bait sitting on the bottom, lift it like you would the worm, and see if it behaves like you think it should.

Lew's
I haven’t used a lews yet. I current have all penn spinning gear minus 2 pflugers. But it’s all saltwater tackle. What’s the negative on lews?
I was leaning towards Shimano or Daiwa.

Lew's baitcasters are generally solid. Not a fan of their spinning reels.

i’ve had two of those lews i mentioned for three years. no issues at all. they’re smooth and have a 6:2 to 1 gear ratio with a 22lb drag and 11 bearings.

It's not so much what Lew's does wrong as it is what Shimano and Daiwa do right. Shimano and Daiwa design all their stuff in house, own the factories even if not in Japan, and have a reputation for being a cut above when it comes to QC and tolerances, which is critical when talking about fighting a fish on really light line. Everyone else may get it right once in awhile and make a great reel, but those two do it more consistently.

I haven't had any issues with my Lew's spinning reels...
whatever you get I would suggest the larger diameter spool for finesse fishing...

What drunken tiger said. It's even more evident in spinning reels.

I got a Daiwa Legalis 2500 recently for $60 and it has been nice on my Daiwa Tatula Elite ML 7’1 Cody Meyer edition rod. I use it for ned rigs and drop shot primarily.
I fish 15 lb PowerPro with 7lb Sunline Sniper fluorocarbon for these finesse setups.
I’ll upgrade the reel eventually but it’s light and has a good drag. I’ve caught a couple ~5lb bass in the last two months on the setup described above without a hitch.

FWIW, the reason this can matter: larger diameter spool allows line to more easily come off the reel and this greater casting distance on very light lures.
I recommend using light weights on finesse. Personally, I use 1/10 jigs on Ned rig and typical 1/8 lunch for drop shot.

Did you buy today?
I like spinning reels (lighter the better) for finesse baits. Shimano Stradic Ci4 1000-2500 if you are inclined to go all out.
I've handled a couple Daiwas recently and like others said they put out some really nice spinning reels as well.

Yep. Ended up with a diawa reel-1000 size.

Thais was the selling point on the diawa.
. As far as rod, I couldn’t find one that I liked at cabelas that wasn’t 200$ , so I went to academy. I shook rods for about 30 minutes but landed on a h20 rod. It just felt the best, was a one piece and was balenced. There was a G loomus that I really liked, but It wasn’t in the budget.

Just an FYI, G Loomis puts a restriction on MAP (min advertised price) for their dealers but allows the rods to be sold much lower. Most dealers will let you order the rod you want at 30% off sticker, no haggling required they just can't put it in flyers and such. Nothing wrong with the rod you bought, just throwing it out there if you decide you want to go that route one day.
