I feel sorry for the family, but damn. I make 100% sure I know what I'm shooting at before I shoot. No way I could ever mistake a person for a deer.

Prayers to the family, especially the father.

I was on a stand with strict orders to help thin does... last weekend of the season about 5 - 6 years ago...

suburban hunt in baton rouge - heavily posted and enforced 1200 or so acres...

about 4:00 pm I have 4 does standing in lane on power line.... all of a sudden

does skedaddle for no apparent reason...

looking... looking.. see white flashing still coming towards me....

what is it but TWO guys jogging wearing white freaking shirts.. and grey pants... not a good combo in late jan.... I let em get close....

both werer later charged with trespassing... I actually videoed them coming towards me.. they looked like deer so much it was ridiculous... until they got within about a 100 yards..

Where was this, Choupique?

When my daughter was a toddler I took her for a walk in the woods on our family's private property. She was wearing a white, hooded sweater. She ran out ahead of me; the hood on her head looked just like a deer flag. I thought it was cute until I realized it was deer season. A cold chill ran through my entire body. I caught her and immediately took off the sweater and got her back to the house. You really have no idea who's on your property without permission.

That was my guess. One of our retired troopers provides "security" for a big landowner off Highland in exchange for hunting privileges. He's constantly busting people for trespassing.

Anytime we get off the stand, we text everyone to let them know. But even without that, u should never ever pull the trigger on something u can't see.

When i get off my stand I have a big arse flashlight that i move all around. I'm paranoid about being shot at night.

Or for evening hunts where there's any chance of being out late, carry a flashlight or even a strobe or something.
