Elk River Tn trout fishing.

My son and I did a little trout fishing yesterday on the Elk. We ended up catching about 14 total which was pretty good considering it was the middle of the day and it was hot. We had some really good pictures on my sons phone but he ended up getting it wet right before we left and destroyed his phone. Most of ones we caught were pretty small but we did have one 2 lb brown trout. Guess which phone had that picture on it.
Here are a few of the only pictures I made with my phone.
We just bought a couple of Kayaks so I hope to get the chance to do this more often. That cold water of the Elk feels really good on s hot afternoon.

That’s not how you wear a life jacket.

That’s my wife’s and that is exactly what I told her as she went over the side. Ended up finding her around the next bend and she was fine though.

Glad she’s ok. Used to live in NE TN and enjoyed fishing the Elk River and around Watauga Lake.

That looks like a great day to me. I love to kayak fish the Caney but I may have to make a trip to the Elk.

Which Caney?
I assume he is talking below Center Hill Dam. Pretty incredible area for trout fishing.

The Caney Fork River that flows from Center Hill Lake. It's a beautiful river with plenty of rainbows and large browns. Even with one generator running at the dam it's a nice easy float. Looks like the Elk river you're referring to is in Southern Mid TN. and can get pretty tricky when a generator's running. I'm still going to hit it up soon though...probably with no gen running. HC, I may ask you for good launch and take out points if I don't find good info on the net.

Elk River canoe runs. From the dam to Ferris Creek bridge or from Ferris Creek Bridge to Old Dam Ford.

Thanks - helps when everyone is talking about the same river.
The first Elk that came to my mind was another located in Carter County (Tn) and as far as Caney goes I'm also aware of a Cain, Cane, and two Caney Forks. One north of McMinnville (up near Rock Island) and another in Scotts Gulf near Eastland/Crossville. From previous conversations these Cain-Cane-Caney with similar names get commonly all mixed up and lead to confusions with small concerns like put-in's, take'outs, and things to keep an eye out for.

I do that run about twice a year. Fish from the Ferris Creek bridge off a Towee a lot more though. Pretty place.

I think you got your rivers mixed up. Elk he is talking about comes off Tims Ford. There is one in NC off Watauga though.

Yep, both him and me were on another Elk River.
eta: Doesn't that Elk also start out on Tn? (. . . they're all real close together up there)
