Been wanting to get rid of some of the recessed lighting in my house. I have seen the converters but was wondering if anyone knew a different way to do it besides paying $20+ for each converter. I would think there is some kind of way to do it just can’t think of any good ideas right now and not a master electrician but good enough to wire some lights. Has anyone else done anything besides the converters?

You want to replace your can lighting with a surface mount fixture?

Yes it’s an older house just making sure there isn’t any other way besides buying the conversion kit

Assuming you have figured out how to mount the light, the only issue I can see is that if it is metal, it has to be grounded to the pot. There should be a screw in there somewhere you can tie into.

After watching the Westinghouse video, I think that's worth it for less than $20. Beats the hell out of going into the attic and removing the can and installing a new joist ceiling box after the drywall repair.
