Putting your scent (pissing) near your tent helps too.

What if the electric fence malfunctions while you’re sleeping?

A guide friend that lives just outside Glacier NP ... with an outstanding view of 'Going to the Sun Road'... keeps a pair of labs at all times. Last time he had a second pair of pups because the original pair is getting on up there in age. He has them trained to run laps around his place every evening at dark because he claims bears associate dogs with hunters. When we've visited he makes sure we're all well scented as well. Which is really not that hard to do.
Just what I was told.
Just what I was told.

quote:Good article. I think most people underestimate the damage that modern pistols and ammo can do. Yes, large bears are tough to kill, but they’re not bulletproof and if you put a couple of well placed shots into their chest, neck or head, they will die.
Then I found this article. Someone did a really good job compiling accounts of people killing bears with pistols ranging from 9mm to 454 Casull
My brother-in-law killed a large black bear in his garage years ago with several shots from a 9mm in Virginia. Put about six rounds in its chest and neck and it turned and ran less than 20 yards before dying.

Guess I've been prepping for a trip to bear country my whole life.

Keep your food hung in a tree or sealed in a canister and keep a clean camp.
This.
Keep your kitchen away from the sleeping area. Before going to sleep remove clothing that has food smells from cooking on spills. You need to have day clothes and sleeping clothes.

Their scent is pretty much everywhere.

Update on the trip. I brought the fence but didn’t even set it up. There were enough people camping around us that I wasn’t worried. Anybody want to buy it?
