How to Get Your Tags (includes lifetime and senior license holders)

Go to www.louisianaoutdoors.com
Click "Get Tags"
If you have not claimed your tags for this year, click the first option.
Locate your account using your SSN, LDWF number, or Driver's License number.
You may be asked to update or verify your account information. Click Next or Submit.
Answer the Louisiana residency question and disclaimer.
Select the Hunting category either on the left menu, or on mobile devices, in the dropdown menu at the top.
Press the + button next to Deer and/or Turkey tags. If you already hold a Lifetime or Senior license on this account, your cart total will be $0.
Click "Checkout"
Make a selection for donation to Hunters for the Hungry
Click "Submit Payment"
Click "Download License" to download and print your tags.

Replacing Lost Tags
Hunters can obtain duplicate tags to replace lost tags for a fee from any license vendor. Hunters who have harvested deer prior to losing their remaining tags must remove and discard the duplicate tags to account for the original tags that have already been used and validated. Hunters must record these validated deer on the duplicate deer tag license.

Possession Tags
You must tag any part(s) of a deer that has been divided with the name, date, address and LDWF license number of the person who harvested the deer and the sex of that animal. You must write this information legibly in pen or pencil on any piece of paper, cardboard, or material which is attached to, secured to, or enclosing the part or parts. You may use the Resident Game Possession Tags provided in the most recent regulations booklet for this purpose.

This is the first year I have hunted in LA in 4 or 5 years. I thought the on-line validation of a kill was ample for tagging a deer.

Do you have to physically tag the deer AND validate the tag?

The way i understand it, you need to have a tag on the deer if it’s not in your possession. So if you are going to an evening hunt or into town. And deer is still at the camp, it needs a tag on it.

Pretty sure that's a possession tag not a harvest tag.

I keep a few of those in the glove box and did not print harvest tags this year. I just validate them on the app.

From the regs, looks like the app is all you need.

You no longer need physical tags if you have cell service

Shoot deer
Call or do the text to tag
Receive confirmation
Do what you wish with the deer after that

This is the way I understood the regs, with the added point of having up to 72 hours from time of kill to validate.

I'm just going to do Text To Tag as far as the tagging goes. The only thing we'll have to differently at our camp this year is I think we'll have to have the head tested for CWD before we can do anything with the carcass, seeing that the whole parish of Tensas is the hot zone.

The way I understand it is that you still have to have electronic tags in your possession while hunting… which to me means that you’ll need them on your LA wallet app. But no need to physically tag the deer after you electronically tag it.

Edit: I guess as long as they’re saved to your electronic device that’s good, not specifically the LA wallet app, although it is pretty handy. But I’d feel better about having them in the LA wallet app, because I don’t see a specific definition of “electronic tags”.

I still keep paper tags in my pack. I’ve got a bad experience with a green jeans fishing with my digital copy of my license. Better safe than sorry.

Of course I’d havent killed an animal since they went to text to tags either

Negative. Actually that may fall under the trophy exception. Otherwise you may not remove any spinal or brain material from the CWD area. And clean skull plate for the bone collection. Read the regs carefully baw. This shite is ridiculous. The multiple tags (harvest, possession) and proof of deer sex on CWD appeoved movable meat remains a gray area for me.

Please read my edit and the regs to form your own understanding.

Maybe I’d need to keep the cooter or pecker in my ice chest for the g man to sniff.

If you have the La Wallet App with the WLF linked to it, they are already saved for you.

As soon as you click on the tag to validate it, they send you a text and email with confirmation number. It's super easy.

At this point I feel like it's all by design to drive up Fine$. "Ignorance is no excuse." will be said a lot by the man in long pants this season.

Hell I've heard that they've straight up told people they're not going really looking to write tickets for supplemental feeding, they're going to let the food pile sit there and watch it until they bust someone killing a deer over it and upgrade that $750 illegal feeding fine into that $5000 or however much it is fine for illegal harvest and everything they can tack on with it.
