Have considered getting a GSP for a pet/hunter instead of a lab. Thoughts?

only had mine for 3.5 months or so then sent him to school. high energy dog and most of what you about them is true. i like the bread alot, but to be honest havent had him long enough to give a honest answer. i'd do it all over again as of now if given the chance

Owned and hunted wiiith many gsp

Better markers than any retriever

Bettter noses

If your duck hunting is fast and furious go with it

If not more tha 20 mins sitting still ain't their gig

Not bad swimmers either

Carefull, I got my first shorthair to duck hunt with, now I have three. Duck hunting is rare and I chase small birds that with a daily limit of three that have a lot less meat than a duck.

Bowies right here in BR will let you walk in with your dog so you get the right size. Those vests don't always size up perfectly. My lab was 55lbs but her neck was huge so I had to get a XXL and do alittle work on the back.

Thanks for your opinion. I am not sure if the OP realized his dog would be wearing a vest that made him gay. Your contribution is beyond priceless, I wish I could be notified everytime you spill such knowledge onto the outdoor board.

yeah just like wearing warm clothes outside when its 30 degrees is gay...

not a fashion statement. a necessity for a successful hunt
