So what happens if the cop doesn't show up for court? Do they just throw it out or what?

I've never tested this theory but that's what I've heard. I'd stop by the DA's office and ask to speak to Earl like you know him. He kisses so much arse that he won't remember if he owes you or even knows you. He'll take care of it.

As your advisor, I strongly suggest that you:

just go to the DA's office

The guy who gave me the ticket was black & kinda looked like Jamie Foxx. His last name is Jones. I had to fight off the urge to call him "Mother fricker Jones" LOL

Years ago an Alabama State Trooper gave me a ticket for going 64 in a "45" - I'd driven the road my entire life and it had always been a 55 zone, but he said they were getting ready to do some road work and were "getting people used to slowing down." I had just crested a pretty steep hill in a 5-speed Ford Ranger that I had to downshift to keep going up the hill - the speeding was the result of the slingshot effect and me not putting it back into fifth gear fast enough. Either way, admittedly, I was going over 55, so that part's a moot point.

Problem was that I'd moved a week before and had my old address on my license, which I told him at the time, but he failed to note. He also noted that I had a radar detector (which is legal in AL). Never got the notice from Clark County courthouse telling me where and when to pay, so I had to call and overnight a cashier's check before they issued a bench warrant.

That trooper was assigned to Bama games that fall, in the student section, where I paid him back in spades. Turns out, he's not a fan of bacon and/or pork products.

Not unless he was a pinto-colored follower of Brother Farrakhan or Sammy Davis Jr's brother.

Yeah, that was what I thought when he got to my window. My guess is that's why he became a trooper - he had a complex about everyone picking on him.

Hate to say it man. You're fricked. Not as bad as u think though. You don't have to go to court. Just call them and explain things. Write a letter to the DA with your money order and it won't hit your insurance.

One year anniversary of my last speeding ticket was today. Coming down 71 from a duck hunt at Deshotel Plantation. We needed one more duck for a limit so we waited longer than normal and I had to book it back for Christmas at the inlaws. I passed some deke going 50 in the 55, trooper met me and wrote me for 72 in 55. Said Merry Christmas and slow down. Called after the new year and talked to a lady in the DA's office to get it reduced to a non-moving violation. Sent her the $182.50 and it never appeared on my driving record.
