The proper term is Head and Neck Cancer. It is the fastest growing incident of cancer in the US. I am 2 years out from being treated for H/N cancer and I'm doing fine as we caught it early.
I have dipped in one form or fashion since I was a teenager. I have quit multiple times for things like Life Insurance drug screens, etc. Quitting is hard but possible.
My cancer was caused from HPV as are the vast majority of H/N cancers. My hematologist dips and using his words ........ 'There is zero scientific evidence that smokeless tobacco causes cancer. Gum disease, yes, cancer no'.
He implies that you will not hear many say this because the montra is to try to get you to quit any form of tobacco use.
The radiation killed my saliva glands, I am back to dipping now because it provides just enough stimulation to my saliva glads so that I do not constantly have dry mouth, as stated my doctor has no issues with it.

Holy shite this thread has more ups and downs over dipping and if it is safe or not than a ride at the amusement park.
I quit a year ago after a buddy of mine got oral cancer but honestly, it wasn’t from tobacco usage. I am not sure if he ever dipped or smoked but seeing what he went through made me want to quit and I did cold turkey. Just threw a brand new can in the trash and said good riddance. However I duck hunt with a dentist and he dips a can a day. He says there is no real evidence that it causes cancer and this is a fricking dentist. I am on the fence about starting again but damn I beat this habit once and I would hate to try to quit again but damn I miss sitting in a duck blind and not having a dip in.

I know for sure my gums have receded a lot, cancer or not I’m imagining that can’t continue without issue.
I’m on day 7 and metabolism certainly has slowed and I do miss it but have been to work, gone hunting and watched LSU without dipping and survived so far.
The encouragement of this thread and others’ experience has really been a boost.

I’m not even sure my duck calls will function right without me having a dip. If I can survive duck season without then I think I will have climbed the mountain.

I'm 17 days into stopping smoking and dipping. I have a pretty stressful job offshore and I chose to come offshore with no nicotine! Cold Turkey. It was a piece of cake until last night. Thought I was having a heart attack and feeling sick as hell. Smoked and dipped for twenty years. It was time to hang it up. It's is hard as hell but better than dying of cancer.....period! Now I just have to get home and ease into drinking and not dipping or smoking.

Even as late as the 70s and early 80s many Doctors smoked, and cited that there was no real evidence that smoking caused cancer, that obviously changed with time as more research was done. Just quit now and be safe rather than sorry later.

Go buy you a can of Smokey Mtn. Not terrible. No nicotine/tobacco in it. Worth it in my opinion.

Had a buddy just die of cancer from dipping. 31 years old. Wife and young kids. It’s not worth it just stop doing it. After he was diagnosed we all stopped dipping.
