I moved my recycle bin the other day and noticed this den underneath it. What lives here? This is a suburb of Dallas. The second pic has a golf ball for size reference. I don’t see any flying insects like a cicada killer hanging out but maybe?
And remember this is under a trash bin so the ground is bare; my lawn is the envy of the street!!!

I don’t think anything lives there but rather a cicada crawled out.

Mystery solved! I caught a cicada killer in the process of cleaning out the hole. In the defense of one poster, it’s possible the cicada killer was battling an unseen rattlesnek. Nature is pretty cool.

All these years and I've never heard of a cicada killer.
Guess there's so many damn cicadas in our neck of the woods (St. Helena Parish) that the cicadas become the cicada killer killers.

I saw this one last year after a rain shower. She was struggling to get that one back to the nest.
