OB please restore my sanity.

(I know thedice20 had a thread on this a while back but he wont text me back to tell me if it got fixed )

Deep freeze is plugged into a regular outlet in garage.

GFI in garage with nothing plugged in keeps tripping, causing the deep freeze to stop and some of my kitchen outlets to quit working.

In a perfect world I would just pop the GFI plug out and install a regular plug, but something tells me it wont be that easy.

Probably because the entire branch circuit goes thru the GFI, thus it trips even though nothing plugged into the GFI receptacle

Will have to check when I get home.

Dice just text me back and said he just swapped the GFCI plug with a regular one and it works fine.....I guess I could start there.

check all of your outside outlets for a poor cover seal. Those will be on the circuit. For the correct way of fixing it you should have a new 30 amp breaker installed and run a dedicated line to the location of the fridge and place an outlet there that is non GFI. For a down and dirty option, change the breaker in the panel to a non GFI breaker. If you are not familiar and confident with electrical work have a professional do the work or at a minimum be onsite to instruct you.

Does the tripping coincide with rain? You might need to reseal your outdoor outlets connected to that fuse. Happened to me at my rental house.

You have a good point, I was actually just reading about moisture causing the plug to trip.

I might be able to rule that out since it tripped this morning and hasnt rained in a few days.

I will try replacing the GFCI plug with a traditional when I get home and see if it works.

There is 3 months of prime breastmilk in that freezer, Ms Pop would probably shoot me with a judge and feed me to a red fox if I lost it all.

I'd check the other outlets to make sure they are sealed off from weather/moisture, if that doesn't work then you could install a larger breaker.

Branch circuit, I had a similar layout in my Garage, all my outlets were on the same branch and before going into the panel they ran through a GFI plug, nothing else plugged in but sometimes my deep freeze would trip it. I had a couple open fuses in my panel so I had an electrician run a new outlet directly to the panel.

That remains a possibility. Im thinking the surge when the freezer comes on is tripping the GFI. The best solution is what Purple said, a dedicated circuit.

Maybe, maybe not. Could be the plug itself that's bad.

Please do not do that. The GFCI could be weak but swap with another like it. I suspect you have a leaky outlet cover and water is getting somewhere.

Take a roof extension cord that can handle the amps. Buy a plugin GFCI and plug it in to another circuit. See what happens.

I will definately check the exterior outlets. I only have 1 on my front porch and 1 on the back.

Since there are only 2, I guess it would be safe to go ahead and replace them with new ones just to be sure.

No

Breaker for surge. GFCI for leaks.

just need to recaulk around the outlets, water might be getting in behind them. Brick house?
