I'll be in dauphin island Thursday-Sunday for thanksgiving. Never been before and I plan to bring my kayak down. Anyone have any pointers for a first timer.
Where to launch, get bait etc

TIA

Cedar point, just back across the bridge. Shrimp under a cork work really well if tides coming in. Cold front might not make it fun but if the waters moving right fish will bite.

You might find some bull reds off the beach at sand island or near the golf course.

Wide open. Safe little spot just north of the island to park and put the yak in, also has short pier if you wanna give that a shot too. You can paddle parallel with the bridge back towards the island and should have luck around grants pass or head west and hug the coast towards bayou la batre. Either way you’ll have fun.

I'll be down there Wednesday thru Monday chasing redfish in a bay boat. Get me a contact number and I may have room to squeeze you on with us for a day.

Thanks for the offer I really appreciate it.
I'll have one other family member kayaking with me so that won't be necessary
If you get on them within kayak range let me know!!!

Sorry for the random bump, but what's the kayak/wade fishing look like in spring/early summer?

I caught some very big nice trout on topwater in a cove over by the fort a few years ago, but that cove is now covered in sand. It's still worth driving to the end of the road by the fort and fishing the rocks along the beach. Also, wade fishing the northwest beaches can be good, but it's a lot of walking. The island and Mobile Bay are affected a good deal by rainfall and freshwater run off. If there's a big rain the water will be muddy and not as salty. If you do a google search there's a website/.pdf file out there with some very detailed info about fishing the island without a boat. It's outdated, but still worth a look.

I’m fine with getting up early to do some walking. I’ll keep an eye out on the weather, though.

Do the rocks hold both trout and redfish?

I did notice that there are some artificial reefs right off the north side beaches. Are those productive?

Thanks for the input.

I've only fished there a couple of times, but there's always guys soaking bait on the bottom by those rocks. They must occasionally catch something. Im sure red and black drum are common.

I fished the rocks about 8 years ago and caught some nice reds and a jack that wore me out. Never caught any specs. Good luck.
