We will be staying in a cabin at this state park in a couple weeks. First time visit and the wife and I plan on doing some casual surf, bank or pier fishing. If anybody can share best bait/lures for Specs, Reds, Flounder, etc. for this area it would be appreciated. Any locals can advise on goods eats in the area also.

It’s gonna be chocolate milk and zero percent salinity with the river being high. Bring some dead shrimp on the bottom and you may catch some catfish and maybe luck you on a redfish

Cypremort Point is HIGHLY dependent on the levels of the Atchafalaya River, and while I don't have to pull up the exact data I can tell you that with all this rain CP will be a muddy, freshwater mess and likely won't give up a trout until late summer when it finally cleans up. You may catch a red or two soaking shrimp on the bottom but even that might be a long shot. Cypremort Point is a really hit or miss fishery and right now it'll lean hard on the miss part.

as for good eats, there is only one burger joint there. And you're 25-30 miles from the nearest city. Plan on cooking

The casino in Baldwin is a good option for dinner. They have Mr. Lester's which is a really good steakhouse. Other than that you'll have to pick something in New Iberia. Both options are about a 30 min drive.

Yep, kinda what I thought. No probs, this is not really a "Fishing Trip" per say....... We always bring fishing poles wherever we go and a way to fry fish. Thanks for the info.

when it's chocolate milk, go with this:

double drop leader and a spider weight with cracked crab on one hook and cut mullet on the other. Secure your rod and and open a beer. A bull will find it and give you a good fight.

Bring plenty of beer and meat to cook, and enjoy sitting in a peaceful place getting drunk with your wife for a couple days while cooking. Run over to Avery Island for a tour one day

The Boiling Point is in New Iberia as well if you're looking for a spot for boiled crawfish/crabs/shrimp too.
