My point is, it's not worth it to me money and time wise to not just buy my food.
I get your point, but what I'm saying is that if we're forced to be self sufficient it may not be that easy. Fuel will be rationed, and many stores will close. I'm talking doomsday shite here, and no I'm not a prepper.

If we are ever truly forced to survive on self sufficiency, all the "I can buy . . .", or "that's what grocery stores are for" remarks will be moot.

I doubt you'll have electricity in a survival situation.

Where do yall buy meat? I dont have the room for a whole cow right now, but say I wanted to buy some pork or beef from a farmer rather than the grocery, how would I find something like that?

Going to hit up the farmers market this weekend for some fresh vegetables and stuff

I thought about chickens, but now I'm set on goats/sheep.

Every chicken farmer I knew has transitioned to sheep/goats/cows. They say they can't really make money on chickens, they are super-fragile, and you get so little meat for your investment.

For my future oasis, just a few chickens, but I'm all about goats.

Chickens are for laying and an occasional slaughter, not daily meat for sure.

I'd be interested in exploring aquaponics if I were looking into it. There's some amazing stuff being done out there in really confined urban spaces.

Here's a pretty good video on it:

Got a link or some detailed info on your drip system? Sounds like something I could do in my 12x4 raised beds. My daughter loves picking veggies also. She usually scarfs done a bell pepper or 2 before we finish picking for the night.
