On a class field trip in college (Limnology/Freshwater Ecosystems) to walk a local creek in Ft Worth, we found a pipe bomb. One of the guys in the class that was ahead of me found it picked it up and tossed it to me. He had no idea what it was, he was just tossing me a piece of wet trash to see if I would catch it. As soon as I did and realized what it was I set it down gingerly and walked away. The professor chose to igonre it and move on despite my requests to call authorities.
When I got home I called the Ft Worth PD, who transfered me to FBI. They evacuated the houses on either side of the creek for 200 yards and brought in the bomb squad. They blew the bomb up with a 12 gauge charge remotely. The best part though was when the bomb squad guy, in full bomb protection padding, came running back up the bank of the creek because he saw a snake. This snake:
the worst part was being questioned by FBI, the fire marshall, and FWPD for over an hour.
"How did you know it was a pipe bomb?"
well the fuse sticking out of one end of the PIPE, the nails taped around it, and the work BOOM written on the other cap kind of gave it away.

I have to omit all the military-related stuff because that would be too odd.
An old abandoned house trailer, falling apart, but inside found a few hard core porno mags and a few bottles of liquor. I was in 8th grade, so it was quite a motherlode.

I also found a mcdonalds straw driven halfway into and sticking out of the trunk of a pine tree after a hurricane when I was a kid.
Also saw a 20 something hottie sunbathing nude on a a big rock in the middle of a trout stream I was fishing in Tenn. She didn't know I was there for almost 30 min.

There were two F-15's that crashed back in '92 that was all over the media here in GA. The crash is the same area that I frequent hunting and fishing. There is all kinds of misc. stuff still laying around. The important stuff the military picked up pretty quick.

I could poke around that wreck for hours trying to figure out what all the pieces were. That's cool as hell.

I found two nice looking ladies bathing in a stream in Talkeetna, AK hiking once. In Talkeetna, that isn't weird though, it's pretty normal.

An old hardhat, logging tools, rail car axles (all from the 20's)
I run into old mining gear, carts etc...some ruins occasionally. Feels really strange and out of place.

Found a rusted over 30-30 lever action carbine leaning up against a tree on the edge of the woods next to a pipeline. Dont know the story, but would imagine someone was night hunting deer, got spooked, leaned the rifle up against the tree to come back for later when it calmed down, then couldnt find.

It's why I didn't mention any of my stories with nude people. Plenty of hot springs around and no one wears any clothes. Two nude beaches within 20 minutes of portland on the Columbia. I was fishing once with a buddy and a guy and a girl walked up to the lake 50 feet from us and took all their clothes off gingerly and went swimming. She wasn't bad either.
eta....I know I've been walked or driven past getting it on

quote:Why, it was one big hunk of rusting metal. Looks like it may have been leaning against that tree for 25 years. I kept it at the camp as a drunken conversation piece, then tossed it. Its at the bottom of the Vermilion River if you really want it.

I wouldn't have been able to get the waders off with that akward rod sticking straight out.
