I’m looking to buy a combo kit and think I’m going to go with this Dewalt 20V Max combo. Anyone have any experience with these or know of better deals out there right now?

i dont have the whole set, but i have the drill, circ saw, and sawzall. chuck slips a little on the drill, but nothing crazy.

i have the 2mah battery, which lasts about 14 seconds in the circ saw. the 4mah would obviously be better than that.

I've got most if not all of the 20V max series outside of the stuff like a radio and flashlight.

It's fantastic. Batteries still going strong and holding charge after 4 years, which is a little surprising to me.

I beat the frick out of that equipment and it just keeps going. Literally just dropped my impact driver on New Years off a 10 ft ladder like a dumbass because I was trying to do something by myself that I needed another hand.

**edit: I'll just reiterate what the dude above said. The 2.0 ah batteries and 1.5 ah batteries work fine for the drill, but I run a 4.0 ah or 5.0 ah on everything else and try to buy those 5.0 batteries when they are on sale.

The chuck on the drill is my main concern and the only reason I haven’t purchased yet. You don’t feel like that has been a serious issue for you?

well, its an issue

i'm not sure 'slip' is the right word. It only happens when i am seriously trying to torque something down, like a 1/4" lag screw or something. the chuck will loosen and the bit will fall out.

im probably pushing the limitations of a drill and the impact driver would be better for that situation.

ETA - between that and the circ saw battery usage, i would probably buy a milwaukee or makita if i had it to do over again. i love the lifetime battery warranty with ridgid, but the ones i've used have been way too heavy for my taste

I think the best deals were around Black Friday. And the brushless motors are longer lasting, and more efficient.

isn't that what the impact driver is for?

The drill should not be used as a driver, it should be used as a drill.

That being said, I'll have a wood drill bit in there and every now and then it will get loose on me. But it does not happen all that often and unless you are using a key chuck it's going to happen no matter what drill you use, battery or not.

yep, but i dont have one. Only the drill. Thats why i dont want to 100% blame the product.

But the peace of mind you have, knowing you could cut, drill, screw, or rip your way out of any situation is priceless.

Check CPO Outlets, they usually beat most of the big box stores pricing and if you are interested you can get recon tools for less money.

I have looked through all the recon on CPO outlets and it seems like this combo from Home Depot is the most you can get for the money.

Opt for a kit with a premium drill in it. They have a heavy-duty Rohm ratcheting chuck with carbide inserts. They don't slip as long as you aren't limp wristed. You can buy the chuck and swap it out easily, about $50 or so.

Who guarantees batteries for life?

Seems like that was discussed before. That alone could tilt my decision.

Only the original set included with the tool kit. Additional batteries are not warranted as such. Also it's a pain to claim that warranty. FYI, they better brands virtually all use the same quality cells, Samsung mostly, so it's a minor point to focus on.
