Either have
1.$$$ for a lease or guided trips
or
2. TIME to scout public land. You can do well if you find where they want to be. I'm going to try and hunt more public next year

thanks for all the answers/tips/opinions/recommendations
i think i'm gonna have to wait a bit to get started. maybe in another 5 years or so i'll be able to give it a shot. until then, i'll try to find a buddy that duck hunts

Just remember this while duck hunting...

what do i need? a lab, i guess.
optional
it won't take you long to determine what kind of duck is flying by once you hunt a few times.
don't let that scare you off.

i have access to some good duck hunting land (stuttgart, ar)
you need to start hunting next season.

Dude, don't let these guys scare you away from it.
It can be as expensive as you want it to be, but all you really need is a good spot if you have the gun.
I've hunted some family land where all you have to do is stand in a pipeline right-of-way, could get there by car, and wait. Woodies and big ducks would just fly down the pipeline. No camo, no decoys, no boat. Just land and gun (it did help to have a dog, but I consider that a family expense because we would have a dog whether I hunted or not)
Best advice given: Next year, go with a guide or a friend two or three times (hunt different areas too) and see if you like it!
