Concealed Carry Revolver - Snake Gun

Wanted to get some thoughts/discussion on the new Taurus Judge Public Defender (2.5 inch barrel) vs a normal revolver(4 inch barrel)for carrying in the woods as a snake gun. My question is what am I giving up in effective distance or range with the 2.5 inch barrel vs the 4 inch barrel? Sorry I'm at work and can't link the pistols... TIA
ETA - For this situation I'm interested in comparing a .410 shotshell in a Judge pistol vs. a rat shot pistol round.

I'd get the Judge, Judge. Not that I know a hell of a lot about hand guns, I just wanted to say get the Judge, Judge. Good luck.

you aren't giving up much in distance that the rounds are accurate to. The real difference is that the shorter barrel gives a closer reference point and can make a difference in how accurately you can shoot it. Now, if you are going to shoot snakes with it it doesn't matter how far you are accurate to as long as its at least 6 feet.

Thanks Puff. I edited my original post to elaborate on the ammo comparison.

I had a judge but sold it. Kicked to much for the wife and I didnt really need it. I think its more a shoot form the hip kind of gun. For a woman you think that would be good becasue under stress they would have to aim as accurately, but the small light ones (the ones you would want to carry) kick to much for small statured people.
It was fun and different, but im not a collector so i sold it and got something i use.

Thanks for the feedback. The model I was looking at was a polymer body with a titanium cylinder and 2.5 barrel. My thought was it would be something light to carry in the woods while I was working at the camp. I would probably never send a .45 round through it, 410 shells only.

A .410 shell is gonna have a hell of a lot more bb's than a .22 or .38 caliber rat shot round. I've killed every snake I shot at with my .22 revolver and rat shot.
I think the Judge will be a little overkill with snakes, not that it matters. But, if I had endless amounts of money, I'd have a Judge to shoot snakes. Badass gun, but not a necessity.

Exactly. I'd have to get rid of my Glock 27 .40 to get this one. Have you checked out that new Judge model that I referenced above?

I doubt you would even notice any difference shooting the 2.5" or 4" barrel with shotshells. I would much rather the .410 vs say .357 rat shot. If I still deer hunted every weekend i would buy one.

I've seen both of them. You probably won't be giving up much range going from 4" to 2.5" barrel.

I thought it would be nice to carry one during bowseason. I don't currently own a revolver (all semi autos excepts for my wife's CCW) and thought it would be nice to have one for that purpose.

No such thing. I would shoot a howitzer at them if I could.

I could be wrong but I think during bow season the largest thing you can have is .22lr rat shot on you.

I don't think the difference in the barrel length will matter much. There's a LOT more shot in a .410 than a .357 shot shell though. Either will probably work for snakes. If you already own one or the other, just go with that.

If you have a CHL, you can carry it concealed during bow season.

Seems like this could blur some existing laws during bow season.

i have a 4 inch Judge... loaded with #7 1/2's on the tractor bush hogging... Loaded with #4's in the wifes nightstand... We both like it,, and the recoil is not too much for her, especially in a scary situation... don't know about the 2.5"..

the Judge is just a terrible gun IMO
do you see how big the cylinder in on it? the gun is massive.

Ram - they are making it in a concealed version now (2.5 inch barrel) - I can't link their site from the office but the model number is 4510PLY-SS2. It's strictly a snake gun - something small and light for me to carry during bowhunting season.

well the cylinder is going to remain the same size. and to be able to carry it bow hunting you will have to carry it concealed. And IMO that would be a very uncomfortable CC gun.
