Considered by some to the be the finest DA revolver made by Colt, the Shooting Master was the premier model offered prior to WW2. Built on the large New Service frame the gun has numerous target shooting features.

I can agree it had maybe the coolest name of any Colt revolver.

This particular gun was made in 1934 according to the Colt Archives letter.

I also collect period advertisements:

That's a new one to me although I'm not very well versed in revolvers.

What is the deal with the front sight?
Also, what is the raised part on the frame just above the trigger guard?

I prefer the Smith and Wesson Model 15 Combat Masterpiece
I own this exact 15-2 USAF model with the rarer grooved grips.

Those are old style adjustable sights. The front sight is adjustable for elevation, the rear for windage.

The raised boss is a cylinder stop
