Nevermind, looks like you added lag bolts later

Good eye. Lag bolts were missing at the start of the build. I used deck screws to hold the floor joist in place until I made another trip to the hardware store. 4 5/16" lags per post now.

It's a little tough to see on the early pics, but the posts are sunk 2' each and cemented in place. I didn't wrap the posts in moisture barrier though. I couldn't be bothered.

It looks like the roost is near the height of the egg boxes. You might find that chickens will sleep in the boxes and of course poop in them.

They've been in the coop about a month now and no one has rooted in the boxes. I was a little worried they would. However, our one confirmed rooster, Doodle, was roosting on top of the windows. I had to add some one by four strapping to keep him down as poop was collecting on top of the frame. I don't think he's forgiven me for taking away his Roost of dominance.

We weren't half way through with the coop before the wife said that. We have 5 total, but my two young daughters were playing house in the coop everyday before the chickens moved in. Not pictured are a 12' zip line platform in the back of the yard and pre fab play set that came with the house when we moved.

Well done, sir. Now you need an automatic waterer. I use a transparent 5 gal bucket and these inserts. Works well. Don't bother with the ones Tractor Supply sells.

Looks very similar to mine, nice job!

Couple of things to think about. I started out without a roof over the run and an owl flew in and killed our ducks. I put a roof over my run and haven’t had any issues since. In the last 2 weeks, a fox has taken all 12 of one of my neighbor’s chickens and 6 of another’s. They have him on camera climbing the 6 foot fence which was surprising to me. Also, a friend gave me a tip which was very helpful. He told me to put some small totes in the nesting boxes to make it easier to dump the shavings when you need to.

Also, how do you keep rain out of the nesting boxes? In heavy rain, I get a little rain coming into the nesting box space through the top where the hinges are.

Really really nice work...built one very similar to that, even had an automatic door and waterer

couple suggestions:

where your roost anchors to the wall, screw threw the stud with a 3 inch bolt and fender washers so it can pivot up out of the way when you have to clean out the coop.

Also, get a piece of linoleum and line the bottom but don't secure it...when its time to clean you can pull out the flooring and dump it easily; I had mine in the air and got tired of sweeping to myself - might catch lung disease from the droppings being airborne.

Nice pullets, looks like an Ameraucana maybe?...what else?

put the back of the nesting box as the door hinging down, not the top. extend the nest box roof over the door gap

agree, heres my tip for that:

5 gallon bucket mounted outside on the wall above the coop floor level.

Bulkhead fitting with flex hose going to 2 inch pvc about 4 ft long...chicken nipples every foot.

in the bucket, put a toilet float and tie in to a water line if close, then you never have to refill.

If no water supply, put a bucket lid with a bunghole (paint stores) and fill it with your hose weekly (2x in heat of summer)

fresh clean water or the ladies go on strike!!

I agree with the waterer and feeder. I used watering cups and a 5 gallon water jug. It's the big blue thing in the pictures. The automatic cups seemed like a nicer design than the nipples. So far it's worked perfectly. Their feeder is a 25 lb pet food container with locking lid. I purchased some inlets designed for chickens to feed them. They figured it out quick.

The nesting boxes are covered. The roofing over them is hinged for easy access. I can support it with the chain on the tall side for convenience.

How is the airflow into the coop?

That was my only concern when looking at the pics. Well besides the pain in the arse that is those little manual waterers

That’s beautiful. Only suggestion I’d add is don’t use OSB for the floor decking. Typically use OSB for vertical applications and plywood for horizontal applications. The OSB should be fine long term though as it’s only chickens walking on it.

Here are the feed / water devices. We used the little ones in the brooder when they were chicks and for the first few weeks in the coop. Once they grew to size we switched over. Very low maintenance now.

Heck of a setup. I save all the chicken poop and shavings to add to my garden. I built the wife's coop out of a 18 x21 carport.. I clean it out every other year and put a 3 inch layer in my garden. Tomatoes are already 4 ft tall this year.

That is very impressive.

It's been a long time since my family had chickens. Every time I see one of these new coups I am puzzled why people see a need to have a floor. How long will a floor last? Our coup was on bare dirt and could easily stand up in it and we simply walked in and collected the eggs from nest boxes mounted on the wall. Every so often we changed out pine shavings on the dirt. We did have a chicken wire fence around it forming a small yard for the chickens to roam around in.

That’s a really nice chicken coop.

We want to get some chickens, so I’ve been reading up on the types of coops.

Yours is awesome!! Great job.
