Hey guys, tried my luck with google and couldn't turn up a definitive answer, so I have come to the gurus of the OB. I need to tap into the positive reverse wire and a ground on my 2010 Silverado for a tailgate mounted backup camera. I think I have two options, pictured below:

Here is the harness that goes to the trailer hookup. The wires are yellow, brown, light green, blue, white, kelly green, and red. I've seen some things that indicate the light green may be the reverse signal, but can't confirm it. Anyone know if this is the case? The white is the ground I need I believe.

Next option, and slightly less convenient, is the taillight. Center bulb in the picture. Wires are black, green and another black. My guess is that the black wires are power and the green provides the signal to turn on when in reverse, but I just made that up. Anyway, thanks for any help!

I just did this on a Jeep. I had to use my meter to identify the correct wire.

I think you test the reverse light bulb socket for the positive and ground sides using a multi tester and tap into those wires. I did that on a 2004 Yukon for additional backup lights. Worked great.

Have you tried SilveradoSierra.com? I had to tie into the same wire years ago installing some extra reverse lights but don’t recall which wire offhand.

Quick google brought me to the linked thread below and green seems like it’s the one. I’d recommend digging around some more threads on there and see if you can’t nail it down 100%.

Thanks, I'll check that out and maybe post over there as well. As the other guy recommended I may just get out my meter and try to test it, but I'm trying to do it by myself and don't want to end up like Anton Yelchin and back over myself.

You'll need to find a wiring diagram. Clymers manuals have good enough wiring diagrams and they're cheap, I recommend you get one if you'll have that truck for a while.

A general FYI for yall that fight this kind of shite regularly, get a wire piercing test probe for your multimeter. It makes this kind of thing go way faster.

Here's a link for the fancy shite, theres plenty knockoffs available as well

Nice! That's exactly what I need, I didn't want to have to strip the wires back just to test and find out it's the wrong one.

Do this.
There are many different colors used, and many "standards" as to what color companies use for what.
This is the only sure way to tell.

I've never tried, but I thought the truck had to be running to shift into reverse? Is there another way to trigger the reverse wire without running the truck?

ETA: Nevermind, today I learned...
