I don’t normally require waders where I hunt but am taking a trip up to Arkansas in January. It has been suggested to wear them.

Is it necessary to spend the $300-$500 or are there reliable options in the $150-$300 range?

TIA (I’m 5’10” and thin)

Magellan at Academy . Kind of thin so dress accordingly.

I would suggest the thinner waders, with good insulated boot rating, and layering underneath with some very good wader pants (fleece). Regardless of the weather, you can layer appropriately and stay comfortable. It can get somewhat warm in January occasionally. Best of luck on your upcoming trip!

Agreed. Got 5 seasons out of mine and finally bit the dust wade-fishing this spring. They were on sale for ~$150 at the time.

A friend had mentioned the Magellans as well, so I’m glad to see more approval of that option. As little as I’ll use them, this makes the most sense I think. Thanks! Geaux Tigahs!

Rogers has some good cheap options as well. If it's as bad as last year, may be hard to find the size and pattern you want.

I have always used frog toggs. Happy with their quality and price. Good United States based customer service.

I used them for wade fishing Texas coast. Not sure if they have something for what you are looking to do but a good company.

I have always used Academy. I would get a pair of Game Winners (now Magellans) breathables and keep the receipt and box. Usually by the end of duck season I would have a leak or many leaks so I would return them for a new pair. However, by January most of their sizes are gone and they typically don't reorder hunting waders in January so I would sometimes get a in-store credit and get new ones for teal season the following year. I did this so many years I lost count until I saw some Frogg Togg breathabales waist high. These are the best because you don't have to go through an act of congress to pizz or heaven forbid, the other. Going on season 3 and no leaks. Highly recommend.

If you aren’t a regular duck hunter I would find the cheapest gear possible. Duck hunting gear can be expensive af.
