Has anyone done it?

Drop the tank or remove the bed?

ETA: Check before you remove the bed. My fuel pump was under the cab and I couldn't reach it.

I've heard of it being done both ways. Removing the bed seemed to be the preferred method. It sucks, but you should have bought a Toyota.

On my 97 Chevy I went the bed route, but only had to tilt it back not remove it. Just remember to disconnect the tail lights, something I didn't do, and almost broke the wires before I figured out what had me in a bind. It took me no more than an hour to complete.

They just dropped the tank on mine. It's not a cheap part either.

It's bullshite because it happens to a lot of f150's between 2006 and 2012.

Not a cheap part at all. I brought it in a got quoted over $1k to change that and the fuel filter. Said I'll do it myself bought a fuel pump for $233 and fuel filter for $15.

They also had quoted $70 to clean the MAF sensor.

I paid right under 1K to have mine done. Like $952 and change...

Eta: I thought the part was about half of the cost at around $400 or more.

Well, at least I feel like I paid a "fair" price. The dealership quoted similar to what you are saying and acted like they had never seen that happen before. I took it to a local garage, and he was like, "Oh yeah, we got another one boys...".

If the gas tank is empty, drop the tank.
If the gas tank is nearly full, remove the bed.

I did mine in under an hour by dropping the tank.
Just put a floor jack under the tank and let it down slowly.

Have you looked at the fuel pump module. It's mounted on top of the frame above the spare tire and is a common problem. The aluminum on the module corrodes due to the contact with the frame. The electronics inside get wet and fuel is shut off. Drop the spare and take a look at it. It's plug and play and only has two bolts. If you have an 04-08ish F150 I would take a look at your module. If it's in good shape put something (I used duct tape) between the module and frame to prevent corrosion.

Not sure on the pros and cons but I had one buddy remove the tank and another buddy remove the bed. They both agreed that removing the bed was easier in the long run. Good luck.

Unbolt the bed, jack it up and block it. Change pump. As stated above, unplug the tail lights.

I wish I would have seen this earlier haha..

And as far as the module I am going to check while I'm down there but my problem was a broken line running from the canister vent to the fuel pump. I filled up one day and gas just started coming over top the gas tank.
