so you just have to watch it, see where it goes and run over there and get the animal?

Pretty much. It generally happens right by you though because the "falconer" is actually the hunting dog (at least with rabbits and squirrels). You're the one flushing game for the hawk. The hawk wears bells on its legs to help you find her in brush and to hear her when she flies. People also use telemetry on their birds to help find them. It's not a necessity with red tails and harris hawks, but it is with a lot of the falcons.

Nope. Only rehabbers can have them. And they're not good for hunting anyway since they mostly eat fish.

Teague, my cousin has been licensed since 1985 and currently has a red shouldered and a red tailed. I studied and followed him for a while and ended up trapping a Kestrel and took it to college with me my freshman year. I realized quickly that the falcon demanded much more attention than I had to give, so I gave it to my cousin. He basically "rescued" it from me and released it. I'd like to get back into it, but 2 kids under 3 years old make it nearly impossible.

I think a lot of people that get into it realize quickly that it's a bigger commitment than they have time for. It's basically a life style.
