Get you a can of seafoam spray. Spray it down real good. Let it set for 30 minutes to an hour. Then use a toothbrush and brush it all off.

Once it's there,a high pressure flush is the way to go. I use those cleaners as a preventative measure maybe once a month.

So is the high pressure flush that the dealership is charging so damn much for?

1. If injectors are clogged and need cleaning, then it wouldn't be running rich.

2. Carbon on the throttle body usually isn't a problem till you disconnect the battery or lose power. It can't relearn idle function with a dirty TB.

3. May want get that away from the dealer and to someone who knows what they're doing. You can spend hundreds and never come close to fixing that.

If you're mechanically savvy at all, you can remove a throttle body.

Can you spin a wrench? If you can, then you can remove it.

Here's how it's removed on my car, just in case you want a guide of what to look for and relate it to your car. It is VERY easy.

5.3L: 5.3 Throttle body

4.2L: 4.2 Throttle body

After doing some online looking I'll be getting a bottle of that Sea Foam cleaner that was in the youtube vid on page one and do that. A few other forums also suggested the timing chain can cause the problems she's having and that's being replaced under warranty and it sounds like the throttle body cleaning is something the dealership offers to make some extra cash.

I cleaned mine on my old truck using brake cleaner and a detailing brush. Very easy to do yourself.

I'd pull off the air intake tube, push the butterfly open and spray some carb cleaner around the inside of the throttle body. If that doesn't work you might have to pull the throttle body off and scrub it with carb cleaner.

I would certainly wait till the timing chain issue is resolved before I spent any more money on the running issue. That may very well fix everything. Good luck.

I would also go back to the first guy and get my money and sensor back. If he replaced it with some part store crap, it's probably not as good as the one he took off.

You really think the timing chain has stretched in 50k?

I don't see it either. There's no way a timing chain should be outta whack in 50k miles.

I was surprised at that too, but reading through different forums it's apparently an issue from Chevy that they had a certain batch of chains that are getting loose way earlier than they should.

Sounds like it should be under manufacture warranty?

Yep. They're replacing that and the water pump under warranty.

My wife's company car is a 2010 Equinox. Biggest hunk of junk. It's not your throttle body, the timing chain will take care of it. Hers got so bad it wouldnt even idle anymore. Keep your eye on the oil level too. Ours will consume all of the oil before the next oil change. Has a little over 100k miles on it. Wife drives a ton (pharma rep). Her partners all have them too, nothing but issues. She has new one on order now though. Thank God.
