We had what we thought was a decent setup for them this past weekend but they flared off every time after starting to come in.

Always killed them earlier in the season but we saw at least 2-3 dozen and either never got looks or came in a flared out and got spooked before ever really coming in.

Had a J pattern on the right and a straight line on left with a landing area of 15 yds in between. with 2 buffles sitting at the apex about 35 yds out.

Should I be doing anything different this late in the season? We've killed plenty of Cans in the past with this setup but only killed 20 blue bills this past weekend.

We were looking north and there was 0 wind

ETA: This is only my 3rd season hunting the Atlantic flyway so any advice is greatly appreciated

I haven't hunted in a few years but from what I can remember they really didn't care about all of that. They decoyed pretty readily.

Makes me wonder if they were maybe seeing something uncamoflauged or someone was moving?

No wind, no decoy movement. Blue bills aka dosgris are the retards of the duck world. If the wind isn't blowing I'm gonna be fishing and will skip the duck hunting. Had you had a good wind going I bet them cans would have slipped right on in your decoys.

I thought maybe they saw us the first time but the next two times there was no way they could have seen us.

I did have a Higdon swimmer decoy going.

I have about 2 dozen of the magnum can decoys. I’m just going to try using only those and leave the blue bills at home

Late season raft them up a bit into about 4 tight groups of a dozen to 18. Maybe one straight line on the wind side but that's it. You'll see them dart and cup more

Go hunt Cans with Tim Lucier in Canada close to Detroit. Pretty sure you can shoot 6pp. My parents live in Grand Rapids and I’ve wanted to line this up but no one in my family duck hunts.
