Wil be heading up to Caney Lake next month. Seems like I've missed most of the good fishing period. Any tips or guide info? Possibly would get a guide.

ETA: I’m not looking to go target big fish. I like to eat.

Don't waste your time. Go to Bussey and throw white spinnerbait around Cypress trees.

The cabin we are staying at is on Caney. As much as one day I’d like to experience Bussey, I’d hate to fight all those people.

Having grown up in NE LA and being quite familiar with that lake and Strop City, I never figured it would become a place to experience but I guess if you might catch the next 10lb bass than props cause that and Simmons is the only things worthwhile there.

A buddy of mine I work with has a couple of cabins there he rents out. If I’m not mistaken, his son does some guides on the side for extra money.

If you are fishing on the weekend, be prepared for a lot of non-fishing boat traffic. Fish early and late.

You are going the wrong time of the year for that.

If you have a good graph spend a half day graphing marking brush piles in 15 to 20 feet of water. Throw a big worm or shaky head in dark colors. You could catch the fire out of them or zero.

You can still catch shell crackers. Fish 8 to 12ft deep on flats until you find them. Look for a hard bottom a no slime.

As said. Scan for brush for bass 12+ deep. It’s not a numbers lake for bass any time of year. But the bigs live there. Really just a big pond no real creeks. Your best bet is finding the chink beds halfway back in main lake coves. Good luck.

Crappie fishing will be good. Deep on tops.

Fish at night. Big black spinnerbait with Colorado blade. Add a dark trailer as well. Fish around rip rap, bridges and sea walls. If fishing during the day, use 12” worms in plum color off of points and humps.

Try fishing at night around lighted boat docks with a Texas Rigged black worm
