I’ve searched via Google and can’t find anything

Search the airline you’re flying with. Each do it a bit differently. Also, look at TSA.

Not sure what exactly you are looking for. Hope some of this helps.
Case must be lockable.
I believe that ammo cannot be stored with the firearm.
Some airports will put them on the luggage conveyor with other luggage, some make you go to a different desk/office.
I will be flying from NO to Amarillo in a few weeks on SW. will have more details in a few weeks.
Thanks for the corrections, gents.

You need a hard case that can lock and it has to be checked. I’ve done it before and as long as you do that it has been easy for me.
They hand deliver it to you with ID verification or you pick it up at the checked baggage desk. That’s the only inconvenience as sometimes it’s the last bag out.

Ammo can go in the same bag on United

I would never fly with a family heirloom or super expensive gun. Twice they failed to put my gun either on the departing flight or connecting flight.

This baw from Tennessee did a solid video walking you through the process.

Ammo can be in the same case as the firearm(s) for Delta. They have an ammo weight limit though, and ammo must be in original boxes

connecting flight.
I only fly direct with firearms. I will rent a car and drive after my direct flight as needed.

OP I keep one of these in my gun case when flying and can look at its location. Great investment:

I put an air tag in my gun case. Also was told I needed two locks on my Beretta cas but not sure if this was that agent. I do feel this year the gate agents were very relaxed about the gun.

Is there issues if you go to a state that doesn't allow high capacity magazines? Like to Cali.
