I searched but couldn’t find where this discussion has happened but does anyone have experience with these ? I’m getting ready to trade my ranger and am looking at a new defender. I will be using it for hunting, not going to the mud races but it will be put through some pretty rough stuff. The guys at the dealership are trying hard to push me towards it instead of a ranger. It would be a can am defender hd10 1000
Thanks

Not much experience but enough to know the first thing most people do is put a locker in the front end.

Problem with all rotax Motors is it they will run beautifully until they grenade

Got a guy in my hunting club who has one on 34s and it is Bulletproof. Is grandpa has one that is all stock and he's on his fourth rear end.

After all the reviews I've read on here, I'd take this guy's advice.

Only time I've seen a rotax motor grenade was with nitrous.

Get the can-am. I enjoy mine.

This was our third hunting season on our HD10. We put a wild boar bumper and a 5000 pound winch on the front, a 2" lift and some 26" mud lites the first season we had it and have done nothing but straight punish it ever since. Probably gonna have to change the front axles out this spring because they're starting to pop when turning sharp.

Our land is all sharkey clay, aka gumbo. The two mile ride down gumbo turnrows to and from our woods gets extremely bad every year once it starts raining all the time like it did this season. Before we had this bike we had a ranger 700 and a ranger 800. A guy who hunts with us has a ranger 900, the same age as our defender, that sat up on blocks half the season with a blown up rear end. Another guy with a pioneer 500 sxs gets balled up everytime it rains. Out of all those bikes the Defender is the strongest and the toughest. I personally wont be going back to Polaris as long as they keep making the defenders as tough as they are now.

My only gripe is that they have way less ground clearance from the factory than a ranger does. But you can put a small lift like I did for under $300 if you need to.

TL;DR
Had rangers, other people have rangers and pioneers, Defender is the best all around out right now.

The Defender has a better ride and better handling with more than enough power. The only thing I feel the Polaris is better at than the Can Am is with the accessories.

Pretty funny how the new Ranger 1000's look almost identical to the Defenders too
