Who else ate 'gron pates' for breakfast?
Posted on 7/31/13 at 8:23 pm to TigerTreyjpg
mange mad (think its a type of bug or something, shite eater, gnat maybe?)
my fave is pauve bette
my hubby is a SJP boy as well.
I have a minor in French, grew up speaking it and took it for 15 years in school. It really upsets me that they don't teach it around here. My grandparents spoke it the majority of the time and my mom did as well.

Boude (boo-day) - pouting or angry
Grillades (gree-yahds) (or grill-aids if youre my gf
) - slow cooked beef or veal usually served with grits and f*cking delicious.
My mom always talks about her grandmother and parents sitting around the table playing pedro or rummy and speaking Cajun French so the kids couldn't hear what they were saying. My grandfather is still alive and knows it but hasn't taught any of us...though he gladly would if I asked. Not very many others left in my family that know it. We're all from Houma fwiw.

Not sure of the spelling but,
paufte berer
memaw and pawpaw used to say it all the time. Means "poor baby" but in a sarcastic way.

Doe Doe, Prolly not spelled right. My gmaw hardly spoke english and this is what she would say for "time for bed" as in " Time to go Doe Doe." I also had a teddy bear named that cause I would sleep with it.
Variation of the French word for "to sleep" - Dormir. We were told all the time to "make doe doe" or "fait doe doe".
If someone did something disgusting (burp, fart, etc.), Mom would scream "couchon!". Meaning you pig.

Also...
Pa tout la - not all there
Family friend of ours was born and raised in Chauvin, he always says something pronounced "Kah-say" if someone is drunk or someone/something is messed up. He also says "brûlée" when cooking...like "Mai's I like me a good brûlée on ma steak yeah"
