I find my Tundra has a great ride and handles well. Strong, good acceleration.

I've had Ford and GM products.mmi will prob have the Toyota version from here on out.

Wow, thats an egotistical comment. She doesnt like the way it looks, thats all. Nor am i too macho to let my wife have a say in the truck....so its basically just has to be big enough to haul our family around and a few trailers with small equipment occassionally. Other than that its about aeshthetics and space...which everyone else in this thread picked up on quite easily.

That's the million dollar question. Not sure if they budgeted to try and lower the price or if something else is causing the failures. I am even happier with my decision of not getting one though. Not that I am saying they are bad motors but it just ain't for me.

BM7, great post.

Makes sense. I know nothing about how they work. Seems like a simple component. It just turns in a circle

I wish my wife would want a truck. I would buy her a new one and take the old one. Rotate every five years. But the suburban has gone strong for 175k miles so can't complain.

When it's just a turbo it is simple as hell. They do things to try to combat turbo lag, which is what made the turbo blow up on the 6leaker powerstroke. When it works you have a full spooled turbo right over idle, so you get much better throttle response unlike the older diesels which had to "spool up" to get going. Just like everything else new, awesome when it works, but not necessary.

The problem is, the companies have their hands tied. Now people know you can have a virtually lag-less turbo, so no way in hell the average dumbass is going to go for something with lag. How dare this fricking truck not haul arse the instant I press the pedal?

My 02 dodge diesel has the lag. But doesn't bother me. They shouldn't screw up a good thing.

Has she really seen the interior of the f150? I have the lariat; the interior is nicer then most cars.

And much more space then chevy or gmc in the crew cab

Since I was a kid my mom and dad only owned Fords, with the exception of a dodge caravan. Terrible vehicle, so many transmission problems. The Fords have been great. My brother and I have identical 07 f150s, besides color, and dad has an 06. Great trucks.

Sorry if it sounded that way. All the trucks on market now are going to accompany you. I'd go with a 4 door if you plan on keeping your truck awhile. Ford is the best truck on the market right now. If you want something that will last a long time and fits all your needs then idk why not go with a Ford. If your more of a Chevy or Dodge guy I could understand that, but don't not get a better product because the wife doesn't like the way it looks.

I'll take the reliability over instant throttle response any day

I'll be in the market for one pretty soon. Likely looking at an F150 XLT crew cab, 6 ft bed.

What can y'all tell me about the ecoboost engine? Is it worth the extra grand+?

Of you won't be pulling anything big regularly is probably go with the 5.0, unless you're really worried about economy.

I'll be driving in Austin traffic, and towing the occasional Nitro or SeaDoo.

The 5.0 would definitely handle that IMO. It's not much of a downgrade from the 5.4 they used before, and the 5.0 is a pretty proven engine.

That said, I have no experience with the ecoboost. All the new body style Fords I've ridden in were 09 or 10 and had the 5.4

I would recommend the 5.0 over the Ecoboost every time. I just cannot recommend it with what looks like lots of potential problems. If the 5.0 cannot do what you need, step up to a 6.2 or 6.7.

The problems I am referring to have to do with blown turbos and shuddering issues. Just IMO but I stand behind it.

Gotcha. The reason I'm waiting to pull the trigger now is because of gas mileage. I drive a shite ton for work, but at the same time could really use a truck for work too.

Might wait til the fall, get a 2012 when the 2013's come out.

Anything would pull that. Even a v6 Tacoma as long as the nitro has trailer brakes if it's over 17 ft long. You will need them to stop when the roads wet.
Hell, I pull a 35 ft bumper pull camper with my 5.3 z that is 7000 lbs.
