Breton Sound Report

I'll be out there in 14 hours and will report. But I have heard of steady limits on the rigs and the island

This is my Breton Island, Breton Sound, Venice trout report.

Friday was beautiful conditions and beautiful water around Breton Island. We set up near the island before daylight and the trout were biting good as it began to get light. We put 12 or 15 in the boat before sunrise with a mix of live shrimp and marker 54 shrimplets. Then a nasty pack of sharks moved in. We lost a trout to a shark beheading and then sharks started soaring and spinning out of the water busting mullet. Kind of crazy not sure I've ever seen that before.

We didnt get a bite for 45 minutes. Made several moves around looking for something but never put anything together. High tide was about 8 o'clock and it was basically dead calm with no wind and no tide movement. The guide net on the radio was pretty poor. Most boats had 20 to 40 when we called it quits about 10 am. We ended with 21 trout, two Spanish, and two sheepshead.

Heard about some limits coming from Curlew. The guys who fished Central and Gossier were also complaining.

Saturday we went snapper fishing off SW Pass and did well. What we heard on the radio was even tougher fishing on the trout Saturday. Lots of boats but mixed to poor results.

Sunday we decided to focus on redfish out of PAL once the tide started falling (9 am). So we got a late start and ran out of Lonesome to the beach to look for trout and wait on the tide to fall. Started picking up trout on a steady pick along the beach, mixed with hardheads, gafftops, Spanish, etc. But a good bite. Called in another boat and between 7 of us ended up with 105 trout by 9:30. Medium grade. Not as big as the Breton trout but you didn't have to measure any of them. Mix of shrimp and Marker 54s but the plastic seemed to cut down on the catfish problem.

Decided to take the W and forget the redfish. Ran in to beat the heat.
