Bow Hunting Lacassine

Looking for general advice, so far have only fished down there.
Any advice about hunting from the pool areas and not accessing by the river? Are there deer around the pools?
Do the deer favor certain habitats there?
Have kayak and Pirogue where I can get around if needed.
It having an early rut intrigues me.

There’s deer in lacassine? I’ve fished it a few times and it doesn’t look like anywhere I’d like to deer hunt. Ducks, yeah. Deer, I’m not wasting my time.

30 years ago, I hunted there using my boat to hunt the southern part. Advice..... be prepared for the most mosquitoes you have ever seen. You will need a full coverage face mask. Think "bee keeper" style mask.
I did see deer on several hunts but never sealed the deal. Also, expect to be checked by Game Wardens. Oct can be very hot.

Anyone have any good mosquito/bug jacket recommendation? I heard that there is one with a net made out of rope then the mosquito net on top of it, creating a gap that you can’t get bit through.
I never could find it however.

Would you access by boat via the intracoastal or the pools/ponds?
Just trying to gauge whether there are hunting opportunities from just walking and paddling a Pirogue in where I don’t have to bring my flat bottom.
I’m going to call and see if one of the agents or managers will let me pester them and try to get some information/advice from them.

This is exactly what I ended up making. The normal "netting" mask fit too close to your skin and allows mosquitoes to bit you. I designed my mask to fit over a "baseball" cap. It extends out over the cap bill for better visibility. In front of the face, I made a covering with velcro so I can leave the front open when there are no mosquitoes. The covering "flap" is sowed across the top and velcro on 3 sides. I used a 1/4 inch diameter rope sewed to the netting to create a space. Be sure the rope protects the ears.
Also, make the netting long enough to protect your neck and shoulders.

You do not need a boat. Set up on one of the three levees in the crawfish pond on your left when you enter the refuge, or go around the wildlife trail and hunt the North side. You will need a seat or something to sit on. The trees are too small to get in mostly. Were a bug tamer, gloves, and two pairs of pants.
