I'm in the market for either a new (last year's model) or slightly used boat. How much is the typical markup on their list prices vs. how much they will sell it for? My price range is somewhere around $40k, but would like to knock enough off to include upgrades like power pole & trolling motor (if it isn't already included) and any electronics. I have it narrowed down to two models of boats, and there aren't any currently for sale in La, so I would have to account for freight and sales tax too.

How does adding freight bring it from 30k to 25k

Freight & taxes... that could easily add up to 5k.

depending on the brand and model depends on the markup. For example a fiberglass boat has less markup than an aluminum boat. for $$43k before taxes you could get a Nitro Z19 pro package, which comes with two powerpole blades, 2 hummingbird helix 10s, and a minn kota ultrex. Freight is already included in that price.Boat city in Hammond or Henderson is a great Nitro dealer to deal with.

Any option of buying direct from manufacturer? sometimes they may work with you on shipping costs to promote their product in a new territory.

Nauticstar Coastal.

For the wife:

For Me:

I haven't looked into buying direct. I may look into that route.

I did stumble upon this website that shows the MSRP is about $10k more than invoice price:

Put it this way, I’m selling my boat right now. I am asking 15k for it, but would take 13k. Thats 13%

Here is one for sale in New Orleans. There are indeed Nauticstar dealers in Louisiana capable of getting this hull for you. I would call each and see how the prices come back

Just bought a 2018. List price was 26, selling price 20.

That doesn't include any of the electronics

Sorry, I should have clarified. There aren't any used ones for sale in La (possibly saving sales tax). I think that one is new, or at least it's never been registered. It's been for sale for a while, so they may be willing to make a better deal.

We're certainly gonna need pics of said wife to determine if she's really worth that much of a compromised boat.

Curiously though, what are the planned family activities for that boat?

T-top, bimini, or neither?

What makes you want to buy new versus a little used? (you know, no sales tax in LA on used boats from individuals)

Trust me, she's worth it. I like the boat because it doesn't really compromise anything as far as fishing is concerned. It's just hard to find a used one.

I grew up on the water, fishing, skiing, and just taking afternoon joy rides. I want my kids to have those memories too. My two boys love to fish and I hate relying on getting invites from others and sometimes there isn't room to bring the boys.

Either would be nice, but not necessary. I want to get on the water first, and if i find i need one later I'll add it.

A 1-2 year old used one would be ideal, but I've only seen one used one for sale in Louisiana over the past year. Of course it was when I first started looking and wasn't quite ready to pull the trigger.

Fair enough, but pics are still preferred on TD, and the OB is a much nicer place so it's an accepted practice, but that's up to you.

Why limit yourself to LA to buy a boat? There's a lot more boats for sale in FL and may be worth your drive to save the depreciation hit, plus the sales tax savings.

If you enjoy boats, boating or buying a boat, check out thehulltruth dot com. They also have a classified section.

Best of luck.

Not sure on hours. Compression is 120 on all 3 cylinders. Never bass an issue with it. . Everything works on the boat. It’s just a little beat up from the previous owner. Below is it listed on the sportsman.
