Buying a camp on the water in GI just isn’t in the cards for me for the foreseeable future since they seem to be north of 750k.

A slip can be purchased in Pirates Cove for around 50k and a decent older sportfisher can be had in the 100k range. I wouldn’t use the sportfisher to fish since I already have an offshore boat.

Any thoughts on this? I know annual maintenance on a boat in the water is a consideration, but I can handle 10-20k a year in maintenance.

I don’t have a camp there but have been a guest to friends that have a slip and those that doesn’t and we launch in the am. I’ve found it’s much easier to launch every time in GI. If you have a slip you have to carry your shite and ice chests etc every time you go fishing. When the boat is at your camp it’s much easier to pack etc. not to mention there’s never really any major traffic to launch.

Edit: I misread your post. If that’s your only option to have a boat on the island i would befriend someone that stays there often or lives there that could put their eyes on your rig on a regular basis. the last time I kept my boat docked in a buddy’s slip low tide came in during the night and a bad storm came through as well. There was a damn rail tie hammered into one of the pylons that you couldn’t see because it was about 2 feet under the water line. when my boat dropped due to tide and the storm came through the rail tie rubbed a hole in the side of my boat. That’s the last time I ever left my boat in a slip at GI

Not sure how often you’re planning on using, but renting something may be cheaper in the long run. My buddy had a house boat and a storm ate it with quickness south of Venice.

Try constant maintenance.

Then you probably could afford a place on the water.

How big of a camp do you want. They have 2 bedroom apartments that come with a slip at pirates cove/pirates landing (one of those places by the coast guard station) for around 200. Taxes/condo fees/insurance are around 1k a month.

a game boat salon will be too small.

I'd get something like this.

1.Buy the land of a camp that was destroyed
2.Put an extra large/wade RV carport on the property
3. Park you a user camper underneath
4. Install large front doors and screen in the carport
