It's time to finally "splurge" and buy what will possibly be my forever-boat. I've previously owned several older Bass Trackers and a glass Javelin - nothing extravagant by any means.

I'm wanting to stay under 30k, and have been looking at some 19 foot aluminums: Tracker, Ranger, Triton, Lowe, Crestliner, G3, Xpress.

Here's the problem - I'm newly engaged, and she's got two boys (8th & 4th). I've been bringing them bank and pond fishing for almost a year, and they've got the bass bug big time!

I'm stumped as to what to do now. 75% of the time, there will be 3 of us or less - but what about the other 25%? She doesn't really fish, and would mainly be along for the ride and scenery.

With all 4 of us, we're over the weight capacity for the Tracker/Lowe/Crestliner, and the others only list "4 persons".

As I have zero interest in going the Fish & Ski or Pontoon route, is a Deep V really my best option?

Thanks!

19’ for 3 or 4 people sounds miserable. I agree the fish and ski is a bad idea. What about a decent used 23’+ center console?

20-22 ft center console will get the job done.

Nice Ranger

22 for would be preferred but 20 ft in a center console is a lot more room than a 19-20 ft bass boat.

Appreciate all the advice!

I guess one concern I had about a bay boat is the lack of storage compartments. I worry that after a lifetime of fishing in bass boats I'd be miserable and instantly have buyers remorse.

We fished 4 out of a 17' bayboat forever. It isn't that bad. Bigger is always better of course, but ill take a nice 19' over a shitty 22' without question

Get a bay boat with a cap over.

Plenty of storage compartments.

More rigid as well.

It'll serve you greatly.

I googled and found nothing, so I'm exposing myself here - what the hell is a cap over?

I just ordered a 18' G3 CC with a 90sho. Its not my dream boat, but it will get me around the Amite and Comite just fine. I did not find a tin boat that I liked better.

I think he is talking about a gel coat capped boat as opposed to a rolled gunnel. Which a cap is the most common nowadays.

But the bay boats offered now have a ton of storage. Just start doing some searches and you will find plenty to look at. Once you see a model that interests you go to YouTube and search for walk throughs of that model.

I'm referring to the bays with the "cap" as opposed to the open hull like the old Kenner's that were hollow underneath with a big step up.

I just always heard the other called cap hulls. Compartments on the walking deck. Kinda like a cap.

Cap over (least that's what I've called em)

Open hull storage

Or an open hull no storage

you will, at least for awhile. I guarantee it. You may get over it and be happy but I couldn’t

Gotcha. I'm definitely intrigued. About to sit and do some browsing.

Is that your 18' Kenner? I'm in the market for something around that size I can fit at my house.

Bass fishermen just bring too much shite fishing. All I "store" in my boat is safety equipment, some tools, etc. No tackle or rods or anything like that. I have different tackle boxes for different types of fishing and load up the day before for whatever I'm going do.

Center console >> bass boat for everything except fishing under trees, and it'll still work for that.

Don't let lack of storage scare you away. All the floor space is awesome. Center console is the way to go.

G3 is a nice boat. I like the look and layout of that hull over all the other big production aluminum boats. I also like the metal Ranger bay boat.

No sir. That was from a duck duck go search.

I fished out of a red one just like it as a kid a lot.

Yea that overhead view I had was from a Skeeter.

The back are jumpseats that flip up.

Great layouts and plenty of storage.

I like the forward storage side boxes on that particular model. They made at least 3 different configurations in the 18. One was a tunnel model. The one with the forward boxes was supposedly the longest/biggest.

I sold my X19 last year but I was more than comfortable fishing 3 of us in it. Layout has a lot to do with it. I had fished 4-5 people at times which yes was a little crowded of course but doable.

With that being said, having younger boys in the boat, prepare yourself. A bullet weight to the cowling won’t hurt as much on a good used with rig with a few scratches already lol.
