Mine doesn't have the mask either. But I didn't even know what he was when I got him from the pound. We just clicked. They said he was chipped, but I haven't gotten it read. I actually discovered he was a blackmouth from this board. Black mouth, black skin, everything. I got to researching the hell out of them for awhile.
I suspect he's one of the Texas versions used for herding but he's got a STRONG hunting drive. He caught a freaking deer for me. lol

I hear you, I still catch it from my daughter that I didn't choose the puppy that was chewing my shoe lace. She tells my I picked the worst one.

Mine is defiant but very smart. I can tell her to "hush" and she will bark one more time just to let me know she heard me. I turn and give her the look and she is quiet the rest of the night.

Mine is just down right stubborn. Being around our miniature Schnauzer has made him overly barkish.

Mine's pretty much voice trained. I don't even have to raise my voice to him. If I do he gets his feelings hurt.
UNLESS there's prey involved. Then he goes stone cold deaf.

I have a Ladner dog. They are a great line and beautiful. My dog is smart as can be, but he got really sick at about 6 months old and almost died. He stayed inside for like a month and that ruined him. He will however kill any dog that comes near my wife or me. Very protective and loving animals. And he will track the occasional deer for me.

If the dog from across the street comes in his yard, game on. But he goes across the street it's playtime.

Yea mines the same way. Come into his territory and it's on. Especially if we're around. Mine also barks constantly anytime my truck is in motion. It's extremely aggravating lol.

Ok we'll uh, I have a male that adopted us. His owners suck at life and feeding their animals so we took him in. I have 2 Bluetick mixs a little older so now I have a yard full of hounds. My blueticks are some hunting bastards. Rats, mice, birds, squirrels and rabbits they kill em all.

I really think the key to these dogs is not letting them get under a bad influence. And ALL hounds are a bad influence.
Hounds are just dumb as frick, defiant, and generally... dumb as frick.
The guy that said his is escaping along with his basset. That didn't surprise me in the least because I raised three generations of bassets and they ALL were escape artists.
Beagles? LOL! Good luck if you don't have them encased in concrete and steel, 100%.
My BMC could get out of my yard any time he wanted to, but since he doesn't have a bad influence, the only time he tries it is when the wife leaves the gate open, then he feels like he's got permission.
