Anyone hike the Black Creek Trail in Mississippi?
Its a 38 mile end-to-end hiking/backpacking trail in Desoto Nat Forest.

We like to go for day hikes or 1 nighters with the kids. There are some cool spots to camp along the creek (more like a river where we go, at least when it's up).
ETA:
These guys document the entire trail. Here's part 1. Search for their part 2 and 3 for the other sections of trail. I found their videos useful when planning some hikes.

I looked into it a couple years back but reports were it was overgrown and not maintained.
Glad to see they’re cleaning it up. The backpacking scene around here sucks and this would be a nice addition to our available trail systems and not too far from me.
Fun fact I recently learned is we’re one of three states without a long distance trail.

Haven’t done any hiking on the trail, but have rented canoes and floated the creek. The day trips are easy and fun. Lots of spots to stop and chill out. Did the overnight once and camped out on a sandbar which was pretty good as well.

If you haven't heard of it, check out Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas. About 6 hours from BR area. Outstanding trail.
Also check the Cheaha Loop in Alabama (near Talladega). Another awesome trail around 6 hours away.
I've done both several times. Best loop trails within reasonable distance of Louisiana.

After finishing hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2009 I submitted a proposal to the state to GPS all the state park trails and do writeups for them. At that time sites like tails.com only had 3 trails listed for the Mississippi.
One thing many people don't realize is that the Natchez Trace is actually two parks. You have the roadway (Natchez Trace Parkway) and you have the trail (Natchez National Scenic Trail). I think only about 60ish miles of it are complete (part of it is in TN).
I always though the levee for the Tenn-Tom waterway would be a great opportunity for a trail, but they do not allow camping. I am not familiar with the sections below fulton, but from Lock D to Bay Springs is a nice bike ride/walk. Part of the permit for the tenn tom to be built was that it have recreational opportunities. While they have hunting/fishing, I think the trail would be a great addition. (We also used to kayak the old tenn tom river from walkers bridge to Old Hwy 78 in Fulton. The dam is required to have a constant release into the river for some threatened species. Because of this the first 11 miles is essentially like a lazy river that you float down. The last 10ish miles you need to paddle, but there are some great fishing areas (again, you aren't supposed to camp in this area so it makes it a little more difficult unless you plan a long day).

A few hikers looking to hike all 11 National scenic trails have hiked the Natchez Trace. Looks like a 400 plus mile road walk.
