How are they this time of year? Should I wait for fall, or is it worth a trip out there now?

I've never had trouble finding reds. I suck at spec fishing, though.

Fall is best for any marsh fishing locale. However, Aug. and Sept. can be good months. Will have to move more to find them. Also be prepared to target all species and don't just get locked on to trout. Now is a good time to put together a good mixed box.

Its been hit or miss this year on the specks. Mostly miss, though we caught a near two man LA limit two weeks ago.

Redfishing has been pretty good from what i gather.

West wind has been killer though.

October and November are unbelievable weather permitting in Biloxi Marsh.

We went Saturday to the BM and caught a 3 man limit of reds. There are trout in Bay Eloi right now but they’ve been hard to find the past month or so.
Around October we start consistently catching a lot of specks in the BM and it usually last until January.

The red fish bite was slower last Friday then it has been all summer, the west wind turned the water from relatively clear before to murky that day along the east side marsh shoreline. Water temp was near 90 degrees but salinity is slowly coming up since the Spillway opening.

Specks are hit and miss at the long rocks and Eloi rigs, they're out there but you have to move frequently. Inside specks occasionally are mostly too small to keep, outside we've only caught a limit once this summer.

I'm going to wait until late September to fish this area again, not sure where to go next though lol. It's August and hot out there, by 1100 or so we're done.

Thanks to all for the info. I'm looking forward to my 1st fall in the marsh, but may get out there before then. I've taken my boat out a few times in the spring and early summer and had a nice time, but not the non-stop action I've heard about.

Fish are more concentrated later in the fall. Biloxi Marsh is a pretty big area. It takes time to figure it all out. It's not always limits, but always a beautiful place to be.

Like others have said,we have had to move around a lot more this year to catch fish. We had a small area last year that produced limits of redfish every single trip from April to August anchored in damn near the same spot. We have still caught fish there this year but limits have required moving around. I guess we got spoiled last year

leave the bait home next time and use artificial, think bass fishing and use the same thought process for fishing them.

specks are usually hanging out in different places then reds will hang out so thats why you dont catch many.

once you start catching specks you will notice its just the opposite and you rarely catch reds. its all about the way you fish and the spots you fish

I love October when you can limit on bass, reds and trout in the same canals

Same here

For the OP, just from my experience marsh fishing, I have yet to catch a spec (this summer) in the shallower marshes here in SWLA. Reds will always be a go

We were doing very well until last few weeks and Speck fishing has been slow from Perdido to the Marsh since about July 20th for some reason

Youll often find me in that number...and I don't really watch football on Sunday, so I practically have it all to myself when I go.
