Birds all over. Mostly small trout Went couple weekends back and water was pretty. Plenty on the reefs. It’s October my favorite month for big lake

Go to West Cove. It's pretty fresh in most other areas.

Let us know how you do- I’m going Monday-Weds.

Depending on the wind, I will probably end up in the marsh since I’m kayak fishing.

I did decent last weekend in the West Cove marsh in a kayak, there was zero water movement all day but I still ended up with 4 reds and 3 trout. There was way more trout in there than I expected, they were everywhere chasing shrimp but were all small, I had to sort through about 20 undersized trout to end up with 3 keepers.

Is this because of the fish kill after Laura? I'd think it would take a couple of years to recover from that.

My best trip ever was in West Cove in mid October. I can never get anyone here interested, and just don't want to do it alone.

I fished Sunday and Monday this week. We caught our limit Monday chasing birds throwing artificial. All small trout, tons of sandies and 2 30 lb bull reds that were chasing the trout. We ended up grinding out a limit of tail pinchers.

We tried drifting other areas but really didn't have any luck if we weren't under the birds. The majority of the birds were in the middle to West side of the lake south of Commissary point.

A lot of people headed to the grand bayou weir and looked like they had some luck fishing live shrimp but they were catching a lot of trash fish. We drifted outside the weir for a little bit and picked up a couple, then went after birds.

I am acting as a single parent this weekend otherwise I would 100% be down there.

To OP: head south. Its a bit muddy up north but looks clean after midlake. Its October so no need to worry about live bait.

Let's keep trying. BTW, there's a tray for the freezer still at my house. If you never use the ice maker-no big deal.

What did you catch the trout and reds on?

No flounder? This time of year I throw a chartreuse Gulp swimming mullet and pick up both reds and flounders

I don't want to talk about it .

I was fishing a slam tournament and fished for flounder all day and lost one right before I had to head in. The fact that there was no water movement didnt help at all.

Reds were Gulp(while looking for flounder) and one on a topwater.

Trout were all topwater fishing schools of trout crushing shrimp. I was hoping the topwater would help catch only the bigger ones but I caught plenty that were 11". Even the 3 keepers were 12-13", lost one that was about 16".

I've done better on larger fish bouncing the bottom under them.

You were missing a flounder and I was missing a trout. Caught nothing but dinks.

And I have nothing, at all to do. I guess I'll just go catch about 50 of the perches.

Damn I miss living on Moss Lake. Just a small boat ride down to Turner's Bay and a bit further to Hog Island Gully and West Cove.
