listed in no particular order, but you can't go wrong with any of these:

Hackberry Rod & Gun - Stansel Brothers
Big Lake Guide Service - Jeff & Mary Poe
Calcasieu Charters - Eric Rue
Contraband Charthers - Sam Bordelon

Especially if you get Jeff/Mary. I've seen some questionable stuff from the underlings.

Steve Bono w/o question. Jeff and Mary do not fish much anymore. If you can them them to take you they would not be bad.

I'd wait until it starts cooling off a little in late sept/oct to take a trip. It's pretty hit or miss right now with the water temp so high.

Josh Johnson.

Josh used to guide for the Poe's (I believe). I have booked several trips with him and had good experiences. He's also a great guy. Once when the weather turned sour on us early in the trip he mentioned that we could fight it and catch a couple of fish the entire day or if we wanted....we could cut it short and just re-book for another day.

I haven't had that offered to me before. (hell he might have been hung over or had something else to do that day but it was a nice gesture).

Yep, Josh is a great guide and learned everything from Jeff Poe. I consider Jeff the best on the lake, and Josh is damn near his minime and on his own now, but Josh has more of a young, fun personality. Either one is a no lose! Hackberry Rod and Gun is, well, CORPORATE CATERING company that will take you fishing!

too each their own. I've fished with HR&G several times. I'm not a corporation. Had a blast.

If you want someone younger, fun & good, go with Sam Bordelon & Contraband Charters.

went with Norman Restor once. We were in West cove fishing under birds with huge specs (3-4 lbs) every cast for about 20 minutes. I had on the biggest trout of my life (8-10 lbs.)that came by the boat once close enough to net. I was yelling at my buddy and Norman for someone to get the net, but they wouldnt stop fishing/catching long enough to net my trophy. The big sow went on another run and when I got her close to the boat again she got off. I was pissed, highly pissed, just sat down and fumed for about 15 minutes. My Buddy and Mr. Restor didnt say a word.
I will not use him again. May be an isolated instance.

Josh is fun, catches fish, and has a badass Blackjack bayboat! To fish out of a blackjack has got to count for something.

Bono is an excellent fisherman. A little high strung, but will fish long and hard.

Norman is a nutjob! I stayed with him a few years ago on a weekend trip. One of my buddies ended up bringing Cap't Norman's shirt home to Monroe after the trip. I saw him out at Sixth Street one night with it on a year or so later. Good times!
