Buy this item called a Q-Beam spotlight.
Plug into an old pickup truck, (not a new one)
Load an old rifle up....use a suppressor if you have one.
Ride around rural farmland at night.
Have your kid shine the light into fields looking for deer.
When one is spotted, shoot it, take mental notes, leave the scene.
Come back hour or so later and track it.

Also, really important note you forgot: if you find the deer just cut the back straps out and leave the rest for the buzzards. Circle of life and such.

I worked with an ol boy that used to kill piles of them at night and never got caught. And he said all the people who got caught did that.
He said he would shoot one jump out grab it and drive off, claimed most folks when they hear a shot would listen try to figure out where it was then call green jeans and by the time green jeans shows up about one hour later they would get busted. He also said he would shoot one and leave others then go 15miles away and shoot another while green jeans was sitting on that spot.

You need want to and a weapon. I was never taken deer hunting by anyone and killed my first deer at 17 years old by myself on public land in the Florida Panhandle while sitting on the ground. My dad let me borrow his truck and I used a .30-30 that my parents gave me for Christmas.
Tell us where you live and we can help you come up with some places to try.

Best advice in this thread

First you need to learn the local laws. The green jeans love a new hunter that isn’t educated on the laws and regulations.

You’ll find hunters that refuse to hunt with anything but the most expensive of equipment, but don’t let that influence you. I’ve killed deer in jeans with an iron sight Marlin 30-30 that’s 50 years old many times and I can’t really say that experience was any different than the deer I’ve killed decked out in Sitka carrying a Tikka. Don’t feel pressured to buy the latest and greatest. Just hunt within your budget and you’ll have a blast.
