Go with either Kubota or John Deere. Years ago when Kubota tractors were new to the South Ga market, they were trying to get John Deere money for their tractors. We went with JD. Both are good tractors. Having little knowledge of your area, the biggest thing is availability of parts. There are 4 John Deere dealerships within 50 miles of my home. 1 Kubota dealership, 2 Case dealerships.

For your hp range, lots of choices.
I have a kubota b7510 and at 20 hp or so, its pretty good BUT whoever designed the hex axles where the wheels wallow out after 5 years ought to be shot.
Having a kubota dt245, the 7510, some other orange POS I broke and forget the number, and then having a JD 2550, 6410 and driven 2755, 7400, 7410 and a Case IH 7110 and 8920 and Ford/New Holland tw25 and some 100hp row crop POS at Hill Farm research station, NOTHING is better all around than the John Deere: Hydraulics, power, economy, engineering, electrical, they got it. That said I have a very special place in my heart for the Case IH 8.3 Cummins

Been wondering about them myself. They look good.

Why? Hear this all the time and can't understand it.... For years all anyone used was two wheel drive, a couple of my neighbors still do as well...
depends on what you use it for.
If you pan to encounter wet days while on it, get 4X4. If you have any slope you plan to work on, get 4X4.
If you plan on pulling anything with weight or doing any tillage work, get the 4X4.
Much better traction and pulling power.
You can certainly get by without it but you won't regret having its capabilities.

I'm a farmer and never buy any tractor that isn't painted green.

Brand is whatever one you want.
Heh... this.
It's amazing the difference between a 4WD and 2WD tractor... and the bucket and SO many uses around the house.

Maybe y'all missed the part in the OP where he says he wants a 40hp tractor. I don't think anyone with any experience will argue that JD is superior once tou get over 50hp. But under that, Kubota is the tits.
And yes, get 4WD and a loader. Hydrostatic transmission too while you're at it if you think you'll use the loader a bunch.
