Need to replace scope on my sons rifle. Gun is used for deer hunting and increasing his chances in low light conditions are my main objective.

...not dead set on that price range, but figured I could get something decent for that.

What y'all got?

I recently put a redfield revolution on my AR-15,it seems to be doing fine, and it gets shot quite a bit.
I think it was about 200 bucks+ the hardware.

Can't go wrong with a Leupold VX-2 in 3X9X40mm. Lots of people want the higher magnification but for your standard shots out to 250 yards or so I've never had a time where I felt my magnification was too low. If you're looking for a good hunting scope and not something "tactical" I think this is always a good choice.

Burris and swfa both have scopes that are good and in that prices range.

Never used a burris scope, but love the Burris FF3 for a turkey gun!

Thanks for the replies...keep them coming, would much rather research yalls suggestions than actually work today!

Leupold bought the Redfield name, and I think the Revolution scopes are identical with a slightly lower price for now.

Love Leupold scopes but the VX2 wouldn't be on my list for low light hunting scopes. The Bushnell Elite 4200 (haven't tried the new 4500 but I hear they are just as good) and Weaver Grand Slams perform better than the VX2's I've used. Step up to a VX3 if you want a Leupold or look somewhere else IMHO.

I want traditional crosshairs, and not a bunch of dots/circle/reticles. I just think thats confusing, especially for children. We have few shots longer than 200 yds. About 1in. High at 100 is dead on at 200, and you just compensate manually for the rare shot beyond that

How is a traditional crosshair described in details/specs?

Yeah i think that's right. I actually have a revolution on my tikka and am quite happy with it. But the vx2's i've looked through are slightly better.

I have always been a fan of the heavy duplex reticle

After looking at that chart above, the heavy duplex would be my choice as well
