The best squirrel hunting is behind my old man's house and that's my spot so stay away.
I lived in the city limits of Farmerville. Two friends and I used to walk down the Bernice Hwy. (Hwy 2) about two miles and hunt on what we called The Big Woods. All of that land out towards Bernice was once owned by the Baughman family. We hunted on the land North of Hwy 2, adjacent to Edgewood Plantatin. Miss Faye Baughman lived in it back then.

I killed hundreds of squirrels, some quail & doves, armadillos, blue jays, whatever, out there. Went after school, and even after football practice every day. Gave the meat to a widow and nailed the tails on a shed at one kid's house. I bought a 12 gauge 870 Wingmaster my senior year (1977). Before that I used a single shot 20 gauge Harrison and Richards Topper model or my dad's 512 Sportsmaster 22.

Walking down the street to school, and in the other direction to hunt, was a great way to grow up. We built a fort out there and camped out many times too.

Go when its both deer and squirrel season. Bring your big bad .300 but also have a shotgun with#6. Pretend to deer hunt out in the wide open with orange on. The squirrels will be all over you from sunrise to 9am

At least it works for me but for some reason I always forget the shotgun part.
